Seeking a Mechanical Engineer II for a custom machine builder that provides design, engineering, fabrication and assembly of custom equipment. Job Overview: Mechanical Engineer 2 is responsible for designing automated machines from concept through production, including generating Inventor CAD models, drawings, and BOMs, engineering calculations, component sizing and selection, lead design reviews, and final verification testing. Successful candidate will possess attention to detail, proficient use of CAD design software, knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and manufacturing fabrication practices, pneumatics, and manufacturing fabrication practices and tolerances. Up to 5% interstate and 10% local travel for team meetings, client consultations, field surveys, construction observation, etc. Key Responsibilities: Design and documentation Work as part of a team to develop and document solutions for automated machines Design components, assemblies and machine layouts to customer specifications Perform engineering calculations, including strength of materials, force, and torque calculations to establish load conditions as input to sizing components and ensure robust designs Create detailed drawings and BOMs for production and customer Interpret customer requirements based on direct communication or written specifications Lead or attend design reviews, both internal and with customers Plan, perform, and document verification tests with input from management and colleagues Analyze test data and reports to help determine if design meets functional and performance specifications Prepare portions of machine user manuals as required Production support Assist in mechanical assembly of automated machines as needed Provide support to supply chain and production personnel as needed Product support Lead technical support for existing equipment and new equipment installations External communication Responsible for technical communication with the customer Work with vendors to select and size components for machine design Internal communication Provide support to internal customers as questions arise Lead process improvement initiatives within the engineering group with management input Manage priorities with input from management Coordinate design efforts to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates and updates to project team and management Collaborate with management, leads and technicians to eliminate repeated failures Provide technical support to less experienced team members Provide input for conceptualizing solutions for quoting purposes Ability to work independently Flexible working style and a willingness to adapt to changing production needs Preferred Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Associates Degree in Mechanical Design with comparable experience 5-10 years related experience in industrial manufacturing environment Strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated through work or personal experience Proficient in use of AutoCAD Inventor or other CAD program Proficient in Microsoft Office software tools Strong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and commitments Demonstrated organizational skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with co-workers, vendors, and customers Project management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task Conduct field investigations, condition assessments, write reports and interfacing with clients Machining and welding experience is a plus Able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds for short distances ERP experience is a plus If interested and qualified, please submit your resume to careers@dr-group.com or visit our website to apply: www.dr-group.com (job #6496)
