Massanutten Technical Center (MTC) began serving the community in 1972 as a joint career and technical education center serving the students of Harrisonburg City and Rockingham County Public Schools. We offer classes to local high school and adult students in a variety of career areas. Massanutten Technical Center is a leader in the Commonwealth of Virginia in career and technical education.

Job Title: Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor

Location: Harrisonburg, VA

Job Type: Full-time (11-month contract / 220 days) – all student breaks off

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Pay: $51,273 - $79,191 (commensurate with experience)

Start Date: July 24th, 2024

Job Summary:

Massanutten Technical Center (MTC) is hiring an Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor to lead our program! We are seeking someone with their A&P license to inspire and mentor young learners through engaging classroom instruction and hands-on training.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high quality instruction to students in our aviation maintenance program

  • Provide hands-on training and demonstration of aircraft maintenance procedures, tools, and equipment in laboratory and classroom settings

  • Evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, quizzes, and examinations, providing constructive feedback and support for student learning

  • Maintain a safe and organized learning environment, adhering to safety protocols and regulations for aviation maintenance activities

  • Contribute and collaborate on ways to enhance the aviation maintenance program and student learning experiences

Qualifications:

  • A&P license OR minimum of 4000 hours of aviation maintenance experience and must obtain A&P within three (3) years (required by State of Virginia)

  • Must be US Citizen

  • Strong ability to effectively engage and mentor high school-aged students in a learning environment

  • Ability to identify gaps in knowledge and background, proactively seeking out and utilizing available resources to address them effectively

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities may be required. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required. Regular contact with staff members, administration, and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
