What is Observability Group at OCI?

The Observability organization at Oracle's Cloud runs multiple services that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. In the observability space, we are addressing complex, large scale and connected event platforms that manifests as the following services - Logging, Monitoring and Event Correlation services. These services are cornerstones of the DevOps capabilities offered by OCI and offer a wide variety of technical problems to be solved and customer focused innovations to be created. https://www.oracle.com/cloud/products.html

Position Overview: Your primary goals are to support and operate our services smoothly and build/drive necessary systems to achieve that. You will spend significant amount of the time doing "ops" related work such as production issues, deployments, security patching and service on-call. When not working on operations, you will be working on software engineering tasks such as design and development of systems that increase our reliability, scalability and reduce operational overhead through automation. The ideal candidate has good programing/scripting skills with large breadth of knowledge and experience including areas such as networking, internet protocols, Linux systems, and backend distributed systems.You will closely partner with different teams within the org in all aspects of service operations and ownership. Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with different service teams on maintaining operational health for Observability services.

  • Work in concert with service developers to evolve systems/products for better scalability, reliability and development velocity.

  • Drive new runbooks to help reduce mean triage time of incidents. Prioritize and automate high hit count runbooks.

  • Practice sustainable incident response and drive root cause analysis.

  • Fully responsible for the security patching, vulnerability patching for Observability services.

  • Fully responsible for Observability capacity management and scaling (Kafka, frontend, backend components in Observability space)

  • Fully responsible for building engineering solutions (automation) to improve efficiency

Qualifications / skills:

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or relevant technical field involving coding or equivalent practical experience

  • 4+ years of Operations/Support Engineer/Site Reliability Engineer experience.

  • Understanding of Linux operating systems and Linux system administration.

  • Experience working in an operational environment with mission-critical tier-one livesite servicing.

  • Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.

  • Should be a flexible & resourceful team player that is able to thrive in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.

  • Experience automating tasks with scripting languages such as Python, Bash etc.

  • Experience with Kafka, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)

Additional preferred skills (optional):

  • US government TS/SCI level security clearance and the ability to maintain it .

  • Understanding of service KPI metrics, alarms, logging, and system health dashboards such as Grafana.

  • Experience working in an operational environment with mission critical tier one services with associated alarming tools like pager duty.

  • Experience with supporting Observability services.

  • Knowledge of Internet protocols and standards, including SMTP, REST, SSL, TSL, and HTTP.

US: Hiring Range: from $74,800 to $178,200 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
