DESCRIPTION OF WORK The role of Chief of the Recreation Section within the Division of Operations and Recreation encompasses a range of responsibilities. This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the staff within the section, ensuring that all supervisory functions are carried out effectively. Additionally, the Chief is tasked with developing and implementing goals and objectives for the section, playing a crucial role in the overall success of the division. Building strong working relationships is a key aspect of this position, as the Chief must collaborate with forest districts, government entities, external partners, advocacy groups, and the general public. By fostering these relationships, the Chief can ensure continued support for program development and growth. In order to ensure the effectiveness of the programs within the Recreation Section, the Chief is responsible for evaluating program regulations, policies, guidelines, and even drafting legislation when necessary. This ensures that the programs are in line with current standards and regulations. Another important aspect of the chief's role is the establishment of performance indicators and conducting evaluations of the implementation and management of the program areas. This allows for continuous improvement and ensures that the programs are meeting their intended objectives. Managing budgets and securing funds for priority recreational projects is also a key responsibility of the Chief. By effectively developing and managing section budgets, the chief can allocate resources appropriately and ensure that the necessary funds are available for important projects. Lastly, the Chief coordinates regional trail crews, ensuring that they are working efficiently and effectively. This coordination is crucial for the successful implementation of trail projects and the overall maintenance of recreational areas.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Alternate Work Schedule is available. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience as a Natural Resource Program Specialist 2 (commonwealth title); or Four years of professional experience in natural resource management or natural resource education; and a bachelor's degree in natural resource management, parks and recreation, education, biology, forestry, ecology, geosciences, environmental sciences, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
