The Data Center Design Management team at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is behind established as a forward-thinking group of professionals dedicated to overseeing the design process for our data center facilities. Job Summary:
As the Director of Data Center Design Management, you will lead the oversight of the design process conducted by our lease providers for the base building MEP infrastructure of our data centers. Your leadership will be essential in shaping the strategic vision for our data center design initiatives, ensuring alignment with our long-term organizational goals. You will manage a talented team of design professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence. Your role will involve not only overseeing the successful execution of complex design projects but also inspiring your team to push the boundaries of what's possible in data center design and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Include:
Oversight of the design process for base building MEP infrastructure across colocation provider-built projects as well as Oracle-built projects.
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement long-term strategies for data center design management to align with organizational goals.
Coordination with tenant fit-out projects, providing design quality assurance and coordination for various design types, including high-density liquid cooling systems.
Design Quality Management: Oversee all phases of data center design projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of design professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
Vendor Management: Select, negotiate, and manage contracts with external design consultants, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project success.
Budget Oversight: Develop and manage project design budgets, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and adherence to financial constraints.
Risk Management: Identify potential design-related risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and costs.
Compliance and Standards: Ensure all design activities comply with relevant regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies.
Stakeholder Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, providing regular updates on design status and addressing any concerns.
Design Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee design review processes to ensure the highest standards of construction and operational efficiency.
Innovation and Improvement: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, incorporating innovative design solutions to enhance data center performance and sustainability.
Required Skills Include:
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of data center design, construction, and operational requirements, with a focus on MEP infrastructure.
Design Management: Proven expertise in managing large-scale data center design projects from inception to completion.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex design challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Strategic Planning: Expertise in developing and implementing long-term strategies and establishing program-level requirements for design management.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse team of design professionals and technical experts.
Risk Management: Ability to identify potential design risks and develop effective mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and costs.
Vendor Management: Extensive experience in selecting, negotiating, and managing contracts with external design consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
Regulatory Compliance: In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies to ensure compliance in all design activities.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement and clear project updates.
Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of engineering or related experience.
