Responsibilities The Patient Care Technician is a person who assists patients with healthcare needs, activities of daily living, and provides bedside care including basic nursing procedures and technical duties – under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity) Qualifications Minimum Education: High School Diploma, or the equivalent, is required Minimum Experience: Prior experience in one or more of the following is required prior to appointment: Work as a Nursing Assistant, with or without certification, in a hospital or nursing home for at least six months Work as a Medical Assistant for at least six months Successfully completed a certification course in Emergency Medical Services, including passing the required state or national examination at the completion of the course; a current certification is not required Proof of competence in obtaining a 12-lead electrocardiogram Proof of competence in obtaining blood samples Successful completion of a temporary assignment as a Patient Care Technician in the Emergency Department of at least eight weeks duration Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing that, upon completion, will allow admission to the NCLEX-RN examination and completed the first semester with a grade of “C” or higher in the first nursing class with a clinical experience component Required Certification/Registration: On hire, a valid Basic Life Support course completion card, issued by an organization approved by the Hospital, must be presented and employee will maintain a valid card for the duration of employment Within three months of assignment, employee will attend a hospital-sponsored Crisis Training Program and will attend a refresher course at least annually for the duration of employment. Physical Requirements: Position will primarily be medium to light work requiring lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching are required. Position requires 20% sitting and 80% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken and written word is required. Working Conditions: Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well- lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
