Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Water Quality Technician - Fort Pierce, FL.

F lorida Atlantic University (FAU) Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is a world class research organization with a focus on exploring the marine environments, studying key species and understanding the connection between humans and the ocean.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• On-the-job training in a team environment to maintain continuously operating, water quality and meteorological instrumentation in the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie Estuary, Florida as part of the Indian River Lagoon Observatory Network of Environmental Sensors (IRLON).

• Perform preventative maintenance, verification and troubleshooting on water quality instrumentation, in the laboratory, but mostly in the field while working off a small boat.

• Participate and adhere to IRLON QAPP and SOPs to ensure that all QA/QC requirements are met and that documentation related to the work is accurately completed and reported.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of experience required.

Valid Florida Driver's License required or ability to obtain one in 30 days.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Marine Science, Engineering, or related technical field, and one year of related experience.

Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and managers from varying disciplines and be comfortable working in a team environment.

High degree of organization, strong communication skills, and ability to manage a variety of tasks, environments, and dynamic schedule.

Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy and quality with assigned tasks.

Ability to work outside of normal business hours, when required.

Experience with water quality instrumentation (e.g., CTDs, in situ fluorometers, continuous nutrient sensors).

Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office, DOS, and terminal emulator.

Ability to work off of a small boat in hot humid climates and in various types of weather.

Ability to lift heavy equipment (50 lbs.).

Salary:

$15.80 - $16.76 per hour.

Work Days and Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Frequently required to perform work outside of normal business hours, with flexibility to start earlier or later depending on project requirements.
