Thermo Fisher Scientific Sr Director, PPI/Continuous Improvement Business System, CCG in Hanover Park, Illinois

How will you make an impact?

This global role owns the strategic plan for the PPI Business System, along with the development, deployment, and maturity progression of the detailed continuous improvement roadmap across the Customer Channels Group. This role leads a diverse team charged with growing the adoption and implementation of the PPI Business System for maximum impact and cultural transformation across the extended enterprise. It includes supporting key initiatives, creating and executing against the continuous-improvement vision, and developing PPI leadership capability throughout the organization. It is responsible for partnering with and coaching leadership teams to create a continuous improvement culture that routinely hits its goals relative to profitable growth, productivity, customer allegiance, quality, and cash flow.

What will you do?

  • Develop, grow and cascade KPI Leadership throughout CCG / RSD / HMD. Ensure the business drives leading indicator metrics for business improvement and cascades appropriately.

  • Management of appropriate business system tools and their correct deployment to deliver competitive advantage and drive organizational health. Ensure the effectiveness of tools such as: Tiered Daily Accountability, Gemba, RCCM.

  • Continue to build continuous improvement capabilities - Process Manager and new People Manager development to further build PPI capabilities and awareness to drive success at all levels of the organization.

  • Own the process for Productivity and ensure that the business continues to drive/execute YOY increase CCG PPI Productivity.

  • Work with functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth, and become more efficient.

  • Responsible for facilitating/enabling the implementation of the PPI Business System to enable key areas of the business and functions to become true Centers of Excellence

  • Diplomatically cultivate an action-biased culture of continuous improvement to improve key performance measures in the areas of customer, finance, people, and quality.

  • Establish and mature the Lean Management System (tiered daily management systems, visual management, gemba walks, and leader standard work) and other coaching tools to transform the culture.

  • Provide support to develop continuous improvement expertise and capability within the organization at all levels

  • Improve the decision-making model and problem-solving capabilities within high performance teams to increase autonomy and the pace of change

  • Work closely with business leadership and Business Transformation Governance to ensure that the business is able to accelerate business performance through the development of culture and through enhancement of the use and understanding of the PPI Business System.

  • Work with the expanded team to develop and execute PPI Business System Project funnel to achieve $ Productivity target

  • Take ownership for tactical delivery and support for all improvement activity and ensure that Qualitative and Quantitative measures support a successful improvement in the overall business.

  • Support and drive the utilization of key processes - such as the intake and prioritization process, the maturity of productivity and its definitive use within the business, the data integrity of WorkFront our repository for information and our processes for Functional alignment and assignment of resources.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, science, operations, or business

  • MBA degree preferred

Experience

  • A proven Business Leader that has additional experience working within a Matrixed environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and positively influence leadership and all levels of the organization

  • A Lean and/or Six Sigma Professional with 15+ years' experience and a 'hands-on' track record of implementing successful TPS-based business systems including elements such as:

  • Lean Leadership (Daily Management, Leader Standard Work, Gemba Walks, and Visual Management)

  • Value-stream mapping

  • Kaizen events on cell design/3P, standard work, error-proofing, material flow, Kanban, visual management, etc.

  • Expertise in problem-solving utilizing a formal program/process and approach (8 Step, LSS, and Agile, waterfall, A3 thinking)

  • Implementation of KPI Leadership across functions and businesses

  • Knowledge of Strategy Deployment: X-Matrix

  • An holistic problem solver who can optimize enterprise-wide benefit, integrating & streamlining systems

  • Able to drive continuous improvement in both operational and non-operational areas, including cross-functional resources to remove waste along the extended value streams

  • Passion for driving improvement and leading change in a sophisticated, global environment

  • Proven track record for developing, training, and coaching teams

  • Great communicator, including solid written, oral and presentation-giving skill.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Leadership roles from subject areas such as operations, commercial, engineering, quality, or product/portfolio management

  • PPI Business System 8 Step Sr. Process Manager or LSSBB/MBB

  • Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods (i.e. SIOP, Customer Connections, Strategic Sourcing.)

  • Able to travel domestically and internationally 50% (75% if not in a CCG leadership site)
