Axis Data Governance Analyst in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Data governance is instrumental in building the core foundations that will revolutionise the way that data is thought about and used at AXIS, working alongside the business to, understanding the roles and interactions the AXIS community have with data.

Data Governance Analysts will:

  • Support data governance and data management efforts including development of data domains and catalogues, to establishment of data owners, roll out of the data literacy programme and other data projects.

  • Leverage relationships built with the business to educate and train AXIS citizens to effectively manage data throughout their day to day working lives.

  • Work with business users to define and document data and data standards to support our insights and reporting.

What will you do in this role?

  • Support the practical implementation of data domains across AXIS, working closely with data owners and data stewards to ensure data ownership is established.

  • Support the BAU management of Data Domains.

  • Work closely with the Data Quality team to document controls across the data lifecycle and support in the implementation of these.

  • Support our data governance tool implementation and transfer to BAU.

  • Support the building and maintenance of a central data catalogue.

  • Support the documentation of data definitions ensuring theseis are consistent and accessible across AXIS.

  • Work with data owners, stewards and the Data and Analytics Team to bring clarity around how to access, data, and how to use and understand data it.

  • Support master data management and reference data management strategies.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on data governance topics, sharing guidance and support with data owners and data stewards across AXIS.

You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

About You:

What you need to have:

  • 2-4 years’ experience in the data governance field or experience within the insurance industry.

  • Solid understanding of data governance and data quality frameworks and how to support their practical implementation.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, ability to win confidence of business stakeholders.

  • Being able to communicate clearly to a variety of stakeholders and work collaboratively within D&A and across AXIS will be key to success in the role.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, methodical approach to analysing data and ability to determine solutions.

  • Attention to detail demonstrated through real-world examples, such as time management and adherence to deadlines.

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise effectively and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

It would be a bonus if you have:

  • Experience with practical implementation of data domains and data products.

  • Understanding of data modelling would be a plus as the role requires working with the Data Architecture Team.

  • Familiarity with data quality tools (e.g DQlabs, Soda) and data catalogue tools (e.g data.world) would be advantageous.
