What you will do

As a Mechanical Engineer Specialist, you will take the role as a system engineer within the Base HW&SW department at the Powertrain Engineering organization in Hagerstown, Maryland. We are responsible for Volvo proprietary base engine system, transmissions and axles utilized by our north American brands. You will have the opportunity to have a leading role in the development of new powertrain solutions, to fulfill our targets which includes emissions and sustainability.

You will be part of the Mechanical & Electrical Systems Team, a group of approximately 7-8 highly skilled and experienced individuals with a collective responsibility to ensure a systematic and quality assured approach and lead the technical work within the department. This includes the development of future products as well as maintaining existing products.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the technical development in your assigned project(s).

  • Secure utilization of proactive quality activities, such as FMEA & risk analysis.

  • Analyze the product attribute targets and define tangible technical requirements.

  • Provide global development projects the technical characteristics defining our North American transport applications.

  • Secure customer issues are solved in an efficient manner with available tools based on our 8D-process.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • 8-12+ years of experience including 5+ years within powertrain development, preferably within either the base engine, transmission or axle domains.

  • 3 or more years in a team-leading or equivalent role.

  • Experience of preventive and reactive quality assurance processes.

  • Experienced in operating in a global environment.

  • Experience of systematically defining and verifying the requirements of a product.
