The Diagnostic Physics Assistant assists Lead Diagnostic Physicist in performing required regulatory quality assurance testing in Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and Nuclear Medicine. This position maintains the facilitated existing film badge monitoring program.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Diagnostic Physics Assistant at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Assists Diagnostic Physicist with required preventive maintenance program within Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and Nuclear Medicine, which includes testing of the following equipment: general radiographic, general fluoroscopic, computed tomography, mobile radiographic, mobile fluoroscopic, dental, cabinet, cardiac catherization, mammography, mammography sterotactic, digital radiography, simulator, dose calibrator, xenoguard air trapping system, and xenoguard air monitor.
Assists Diagnostic Physicist with the following tasks: survey meter calibrations, clearance time calculations, sealed source leak testing, and sealed source inventory.
Provides personnel monitoring services to the medical center staff as required by the N.J.D.E.P. Bureau of Radiological Health and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Assists the Radiation Safety Officer with the development and implementation of radiation protection procedures to keep personnel and public radiation exposures as low as reasonably achievable.
Assists Lead Diagnostic Physicist with image quality/monitor testing for existing PACS System.
Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
Graduate of an Approved Radiological Technology school.
2 years clinical experience.
Intermediate computer skills.
ARRT registered.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Diagnostic Radiography License or Nuclear Medical Technologist License or Physician Assistant License.
Contacts:
- Regular contact with Medical Center personnel, patients and visitors.
Working Conditions:
- Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
