U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command Human Resources Assistant (Military/OA) in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico

Summary About the Position: Guaynabo is located near San Juan, Puerto Rico, within a short drive from the Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, Old San Juan, and most popular tourist attractions and beaches. PR is designated as an OCONUS Non-foreign area. Salary shown in this announcement includes a Locality Payment of 15.95% for this Non-Foreign Area. An adjusted Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) rate of 3.13% is not reflected in the salary shown. Responsibilities Fingerprint applicants using automated systems, ensuring fingerprints are classifiable (acceptable). Transmit fingerprints electronically to the investigating agency (OPM/FBI). Initiate background check and verify applicants Emergency Data Records. Input applicant records entries into an automated database. Screens applicants? records to ascertain that all necessary documents are present according to the requirements of each military service. Ensure timely release of and accountability for processing records to the medical section, military services and external agencies for review. Transcribe data from numerous source documents which are completed by the applicant or military service representative. Greet and account for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS. Gather applicants for processing and enlistment ceremonies. Administer pre-oath briefings, and brief applicants on MEPS procedures. Question applicants to obtain and/or verify complete data required for final data processing of forms and records for entry into the military service. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing controlled items in an office setting; operating a variety of office automation equipment; giving oral instructions to groups of people; maintaining and filing applicant records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
