Team or Function Overview

The Roofing Principles and Construction Documents team supports and partners with internal and external stakeholders to provide best in class technical collateral and services of our commercial and residential roofing products. This team supports the entire GAF product line for commercial and residential with additional support for Siplast, GAF Energy and other Standard Industries businesses as needed. This position reports to the Director Roofing Principles and Construction Documents.

Summary

The Architectural Designer is primarily responsible for supporting and servicing the design and drafting needs of architects, specifiers, contractors, and GAF Territory Managers. The Architectural Designer will lead the innovation and evolution of GAF’s offerings for standard roofing details, custom details, roof plans, sheet layouts, and manufacturers' shop drawings for our external and internal customers. The position also includes writing, revising, and maintaining CSI formatted specifications and installation manuals. General knowledge of commercial and residential construction practices is preferred. This position is fully remote.

Essential Duties

  • Drafting responsibilities to include: Schematic Design, Design Development and Construction Documents. Translate and convert hand drawings and sketches into CAD systems

  • Create and maintain standard roofing details and technical support literature for all product lines including design and installation guides, configuration of details, long form specifications, web maintenance, and other related construction drawings

  • Create and maintain technical installation manuals, Pro Field Guides, CSI 3-part specifications, and other technical industry documents related to GAF’s product offerings

  • Obtain and assemble information to complete architectural drawings by visiting manufacturing lines and visit job sites as necessary

  • Maintain technical industry knowledge by attending educational workshops, webinars and reviewing technical publications

  • Develop and maintain open interdepartmental communications with: Technical Services, Field Services, Purchasing, Sales, Marketing and R&D teams as required to assist with the drafting duties required

Physical Demands

  • Ability to frequently work in a stationary position for long periods of time

  • Ability to frequently move about to accomplish tasks or to move from one work area to another

  • Close visual acuity to view documents, computer screens, and files

  • Ability to frequently and quickly converse with and convey information to others on the phone and in person

  • Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment and keyboards

  • Ability to position self to bend, pull, and reach at or below shoulder level to perform filing and application demos

  • Ability to move up to 25 lbs. frequently (files, boxes, etc.) and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (products/materials for training & demos)

  • Ability to work with heights; ascend/descend ladders and stairs; position self to move safely over uneven surfaces; work in outdoor conditions including high/low temperatures, dust, humidity, etc.; wear/work in PPE; perceive hazards and quickly respond to sounds on job sites during occasional participation in training activities, roof inspections, roof application demos, etc.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • HS Diploma or GED

  • 2+ years of related work experience

  • Being proficient in CAD.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including both verbal and written communication and the ability to establish and maintain business relationships

  • Must have (and maintain) a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record

  • Ability to travel as necessary

  • Ability to have and maintain a credit card for business-related expenses

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Engineering or Architecture

  • Construction or roofing industry, preferred

  • CAD Certification

  • CSI CDT

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Revu/Adobe Acrobat

  • Experience with Microsoft Office or Google Suite

Annual Salary Range: 67,500-86,250
