Perform sophisticated analytics (statistical and predictive analytics, machine learning modeling, etc.) and develop workflow applications to improve business outcomes and minimize risk, while providing technical consultation to business leaders and other stakeholders on how to leverage analytics and automation within business operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Independently perform sophisticated data analytics (ranging from classical econometrics to machine learning, neural networks, and natural language processing) in a variety of environments using structured and unstructured data.

  • Produce compelling data visualizations and workflow applications to communicate insights and influence outcomes among a wide array of stakeholders, driving efficiency and accuracy of business operations

  • Customize coding, software integration, perform analysis, configure solutions, using toolsets for integration of products to configure or generate a solution.

  • Lead and participate in the technical design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of solutions in adherence to company standards, including robust unit testing and support for subsequent release testing.

  • Typically lead moderately complex projects and participate in larger, more complex initiatives.

  • Solve complex technical and operational problems. Act as a resource for teammates with less experience.

  • May oversee the work of a small team as required for large projects.

  • Take accountability and ownership of end-to-end data science solution design, technical delivery, and measurable business outcome.

  • Engage in stakeholder meetings to identify business objectives and scope solution requirements.

  • Independently write, document, and deploy custom code in a variety of environments (Python, SAS, SQL, R, etc.) to create automated tools and predictive analytics applications

  • Use, maintain, share and collaborate through Truist internal code repositories to foster continual learning and crosspollination of skillsets.

  • Actively research and advocate adoption of emerging methods and technologies in the data science field, with the eye of continually advancing Truist’s capabilities.

  • Exercise sound judgment and foster risk management culture throughout design, development, and deployment practices; partner with cross-functional teams to coordinate rules on data usage, data governance and analytics capabilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and four or more years of experience in a quantitative field such as Finance, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent education and related training

  • Exhibit understanding of statistical methods, including a broad understanding of classical statistics, probability theory, econometrics, time-series, and primary statistical tests

  • Familiarity with linear algebra concepts for optimization, complex matrix operations, eigenvalue decompositions, and principal components; working knowledge of calculus/differential equations, with understanding of stochastic processes

  • Demonstrate understanding of data cleansing and preparation methodologies, including regex, filtering, indexing, interpolation, and outlier treatment

  • Knowledge of programming software applications with more than four years of experience

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, MSP, and Microsoft Office software products, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

  • Strong familiarity with data extraction and analysis in a variety of environments (Visual Basic, SQL, Python, R, .Net, C++, C#, SAS, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of data visualization platforms (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)

  • Experience in managing multiple projects with tight deadlines in a collaborative environment

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for the purpose of providing basic information about technical designs and system requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD and four or more years of experience in a quantitative field such as Finance, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent education and related training

  • Banking or financial services experience.

  • Experience developing code or technical configuration of business processes on an Agile team

  • Professional experience building apps or services from the ground up and scaling at an enterprise level

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software design with strong analytical and debugging skills

  • Solid knowledge of relational database design and development (SQL, stored procedures, data modeling)

  • Experience building user-interfaces in Visual Studio or other relevant platforms
