Job Summary

The Career Readiness Manager will serve as the lead for internships, Career Services activities, and is responsible for overseeing the team that supports students with the necessary skills, coaching, and resources to succeed in the job search process and career development. This role will work closely with students, faculty, and industry professionals to facilitate job placement, internships, Educational Work Experience ( EWE ) opportunities, and other career readiness activities. Additionally, this position will research current job openings and labor market data, build relationships with employers, and oversee departmental events and programs such as job and career fairs. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, a deep understanding of career programs, the ability to develop and maintain employer relationships, understand College of Lake County programs of study, and assist students in matching their skills with available work-based learning opportunities.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Career and Job Placement Center ( CJPC ), the position will develop department processes to grow the student and alumni network for employment and serve as a representative to a variety of constituencies including industry professionals, community-based organizations, faculty, alumni, and students. Additionally, the individual in this position will be expected to have excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills, the ability to meet deadlines, strong presentation skills, and work both independently and as part of a team. As an ambassador of the college to the external community, this role works within an environment of a high level of professionalism and is connected to the college’s workforce solutions approach for business partners.

Required Qualification(s)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Sales or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience WITH two (2) years of supervisory experience OR Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Sales or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of work experience

  • Experience with employer recruitment processes and monitoring employment trends.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of best practices including job market trends, employer relations and recruitment methodologies, and application of technology in the delivery of services.

  • Experience with database management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively across internal and external organizational structures.

  • Strong follow-up, follow-through skills, and attention to detail.

  • Outstanding communication skills that emphasize effective listening.

  • 30-40% local travel required.

  • Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Summary of Essential Functions

Operations Management: (50%)

  • Match qualified students and alumni for internships and job openings.

  • Oversee the daily operations of LancerJobLink database (Handshake) to ensure employer guidelines for registration and job postings are followed.

  • Recommend business practices to ensure students have barrier-free access to training and development for their career goals.

  • Prepare regular informational and statistical reports regarding job and internship placement success. Report frequency to range across weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual, and multi-year analyses.

  • Travel to and from employers to hold meetings and conduct site visits of work based learning sites.

  • Prepare written communications and presentations, ensuring they are clear, concise, and tailored to the appropriate audience.

  • Oversee the student internship process by ensuring business processes are documented and an accountability structure is in place to monitor quality.

  • Support the Executive Director in developing and managing the operational budget related to career services activities.

Strategic Leadership: (20%)

  • Provide strategic direction to the career service team for career services activities and events to meet student outcomes and business needs.

  • Analyze and share information gathered from area employers regarding current job trends, salary levels, current and potential employment needs, and satisfaction of the students/graduates placed in jobs.

  • Build business partnerships and generate new employment opportunities for students through on-site visits, emails and phone calls.

  • Uphold high customer service standards in working with students, business partners, and internal stakeholders.

Personnel Management: (15%)

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Career Services team.

  • Establish team and individual goals that align with college priorities and the Lancer Success Framework for student success.

  • Develop an environment that promotes high-performing team attributes and upholds the CLC Values.

Project Management: (10%)

  • Establish metrics, track engagement, and monitor outcome levels to determine progress of employer engagement and internship placement.

  • Assist with administering applicant tracking system to perform the various stages of recruiting, posting jobs, pre-screening applicants, and tracking student/graduate progression. Keeps thorough records of all recruitment activity including reporting and tracking student applicant data.

Other Duties: (5%)

  • May participate on various college committees and other institutional activities related to employment.

  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of the Career and Job Placement Center.
