Maintenance Technician

*Job Objective: *

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine building and grounds maintenance tasks.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements.
  • Valid state driver's license.
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Meets qualifications as defined in current revised state codes, safety rules, and school board policy.
  • A solid understanding of building systems and maintenance procedures (basic carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
  • Strong commitment to safety and knowledge of safety protocols, including handling hazardous materials, proper us of PPE, and familiarity with relevant safety regulations.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Demonstrate an ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to draw and interpret basic bar graphs.

Essential Functions:

The following are typical work responsibilities.  A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.

  • Inspect and identify maintenance/utility equipment or machines in need of repair.
  • Change light bulbs, interior and exterior. 
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, tiling, grouting, and painting.
  • Complete preventative maintenance program.
  • Complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot issues to determine the necessary repairs.
  • Perform routine maintenance on building systems to help prolong life.
  • Perform general repairs that do not required a specialized technician such as: drywall, tape and floating, repairing doors and other building fixtures.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment and report hazardous conditions to your supervisor and act to immediately correct hazardous conditions when it is within your capability to do so.  This includes all hazards including fire, trip, slip and chemical, and when observing co-workers acting in an unsafe manner.
  • Follow all safety rules and policies, use safety equipment and personal protective equipment when it is appropriate to assigned task.
  • Research, specify, receive and inventory all materials and supplies needed for execution of assigned projects.
  • Report to Supervisor what needs to be ordered to complete assigned projects.
  • Attend and participate in weekly safety/team meetings.
  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled groundskeeping activities including but not limited to: renovating and removing tree and landscape material; cleaning up debris and storm damage; maintaining school district amenities; assisting with greenhouse operation; assisting with setup and execution of school events.
  • Participates in the plowing, shoveling, sweeping, and salting of school streets, parking lots, walkways, and entrances as directed for snow removal.
  • Maintains safe and proper conditioning for school grounds including some athletic fields. (e.g. mows, trims, weed eats, paints regulation lines, places goal boxes for games, etc.)
  • Maintains required licensures and certification.
  • Comprehends and maintains all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
  • As needed, move tables, chairs, or other equipment to desired location in align with work order request.
  • Perform all other tasks as directed and instructed by the Operations Supervisor.
