The general role of the Sr. Lab Technician - Fiber Optics is building and testing fiber optic cables within the lab with an end goal of supporting field operations, meeting customer needs, and providing maximum operating efficiency. The Sr. Lab Technician - Fiber Optics will have the opportunity to apply technical expertise to a variety of situations by evaluating problems and implementing solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Identify Fiber Optic cables and material
  • Build basic and more complex cable assemblies
  • Provide training and guidance for less experienced lab technicians
  • Fill orders to include spooling fiber cable, kitting materials, assembling basic enclosures, etc.
  • Perform quality control testing and serialization of sold assemblies
  • Assist Project Managers with developing Standard Operating Procedures
  • Operate and maintain polishing machine
  • Maintain and adjust lab equipment to include creating polisher processes
  • Generate packing/delivery tickets
  • Demonstrate proficiency with recording inventory quantities using Vista and Microsoft Excel
  • Maintain test sets
  • Provide General Lab Room oversight (workstations, housekeeping, info boards, etc.)
  • Assist with supply chain management
  • Provide oversight of inventory control
  • Provide oversight of Quality Control
  • Perform special testing operations (interferometer)
  • Coordinate cable build priorities with management
  • Coordinate with Shipping and Receiving
  • Lead, mentor, and train lab personnel
  • Provide feedback and input for employee performance reviews

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant Fiber Optics experience preferred
  • Mastery of Lab Technician II Job Duties
    • Identify all Fiber Optic cables and material
    • Build basic and more complex cable assemblies
    • Provide training and guidance for less experienced lab technicians
    • Perform quality control testing and serialization of sold assemblies
    • Operate and maintain polishing machine
    • Generate packing/delivery tickets
    • Maintain test sets
    • Provide General Lab Room oversight (workstations, housekeeping, info boards, etc.)
    • Assist with inventory control to include min/max levels
    • Lead and mentor less experienced coworkers
    • Lead team members and project completions as
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to focus on t dious tasks
  • Ability to differentiate color codes
  • Basic power tool operation
  • Able to take accurate measurements with a tape measure
  • Able to follow work direction both verbally and in writing
  • Previous experience with quality control preferred
  • Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain professionalism
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Visio
  • Aptitude for leadership preferred

Working Conditions

  • Sit/use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls / reach with hands and arms / - for extended periods
  • Twist, pinch, and pull with fingers and hands repetitively
  • Lift and/or move up to 75-100 pounds when required
