Pillar Innovations LLC Machinist/Manual Operator in Grantsville, Maryland

Candidates for the below position will be assigned a position level based on the current skills at their time of hire.

Beitzel Corporation is an Industrial Construction and Service Company with nearly 50 years of experience in the Energy, Mining, Industrial Construction, Aggregate, and Renewables Industries. The Corporate Headquarters are located in Grantsville, MD with several offices throughout the country.

Beitzel Corporation is now accepting applications for a full-timeMachinist - Fabrication and Machining.The general role of theMachinististo efficiently and accuratelyutilize various machining techniques to repair and build products as specified by blueprints, work orders, and oral instructions. Duties include the use and maintenance of related shop equipment for machining.This is considered a skilled position that requires knowledge of various machining equipment, components, and techniques.

This individual will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of industrial machining, must be proficient with the products and services offered by the company and must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed.

The equipment and skills are divided into four different categories:Group 1,Group 2, Group 3,andGroup 4.

  • Group 1 Equipment: Manual Lathe - Vertical, Manual Lathe - Horizontal, Manual Mill - Vertical, Manual Boring Mill - Horizonal
  • Group 2 Equipment: CNC Lathe, CNC Mill
  • Group 3 Skills: Surface Grinder, Drill Press, Balancing
  • Group 4 Skills: Spray Welding, Line Boring

There are four levels of Machinist:

  • Machinist I- Entry Level to Proficient in operating 1 piece from Group 1 or Group 2 Equipment
  • Machinist II- Advanced ability to operate (2) pieces of Group 1 Equipment or Group 2 Equipment
  • Machinist III- Advanced ability to operate all Group 1 Equipment, advanced ability to operate at least (1) piece from Group 2 Equipment, and be proficient in Group 3 Skills
  • Machinist IV- Advanced ability to operate all Group 1 Equipment, all Group 2 Equipment, and be proficient in Group 3 and Group 4 skills.

The Machinist will report to the Production Manager - Fabrication and Machining and will work primarily out of the Beitzel Machine Shop.

Responsibilities
  • Safely and efficiently operate assigned equipment
  • Read, understand, and accurately execute work orders and quality assurance (QA) standards per job requirements
  • Facilitate setups and changeovers within machine capacities
  • Secure work pieces and operate stops and guides for proper alignment
  • Monitor machine functions during operation to ensure accurate output within tolerance requirements
  • Perform quality checks during production to ensure part/piece meets tolerance requirements
  • Follow proper procedures when defective parts are discovered
  • Monitor and assist plant operations in accordance with company policies and plant standard operating procedures
  • Perform any general work or other assignments necessary to e sure safe, clean, and efficient shop operations
  • Obtain Competent Operator Certification and safely operate the overhead cranes
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspection of shop tools and equipment
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area at all times
  • Assist with organizing materials and supplies for jobs
  • Communicate and work effectively with shop personnel, supervisors, and management to achieve project goals

Qualifications
  • Previous relevant machining experience preferred
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Must possess excellent math skills including adding, subtracting, decimals and fractions
  • Ability to use measuring devices such as tape measures, squares, protractors, compasses, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, verniers, etc.
  • Possess working knowledge of basic blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to operate a variety of shop metal working equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in an industrial shop setting
  • Possess knowledge of metal plate types (steel, aluminum, stainless, galvanized, etc.), sizes, and shapes (beams, channels, angles, pipe, flat bar, etc.) preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Experience with use of an overhead crane preferred
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, possess a positive attitude, and be willing to work independently or in a team environment
  • Ability to troubleshoot project challenges involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to effectively multitask
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and prioritize competing work assignments
  • Valid drivers license is required

Working Conditions

  • Sit, talk, hear, read, and write
  • Walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Perform duties indoors in a shop setting with occasional work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
