Beitzel Corporation is now accepting applications for a professional, full-time, experienced, and ambitious HVAC/R Service Apprentice. The HVAC/R field team is responsible for performing repairs, maintenance on a wide variety of commercial, industrial and some residential HVAC/R equipment. The HVAC/R Service Apprentice will be expected to provide unmatched customer service and perform minor electrical and plumbing/piping repairs, and installation work as well. This customer service position will require a flexible schedule primarily Monday thru Friday, and may include emergency call-out work, evenings, weekends, holidays, and out-of-town/out-of-area work.

The HVAC/R Service Apprentice reports to HVAC/R Group management and while the Group is based at our Headquarters in Grantsville, Maryland, most dispatches will be from home to the first job.

Responsibilities
  • Primarily responsible for assisting with service work, repairs, maintenance, and retrofits to a variety of equipment, including but not limited to commercial, industrial, and residential air conditioning, refrigeration, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, compressors, furnaces, boilers, burners, intake and exhaust fans, economizers, humidifiers, and BAS systems. Some installation work will be included when required.
  • Be aware of and always practice our Core Values and promote them throughout the HVAC/R Group and all other Beitzel employees.
  • Assist in providing quality customer service while troubleshooting and diagnosing air conditioning, refrigeration, heating units and various other associated HVAC/R equipment
  • Service and install natural gas, LP gas and fuel oil burners and furnace systems
  • Direct contact with commercial and industrial customers and this contact is to contribute to the top of the industry customer service experience and to help maintain and build the HVAC/R client base.
  • Assist with performing basic electrical trouble shooting and repair
  • Assist with performing basic plumbing trouble shooting and repair
  • Assist with performing code-compliant work relating to HVAC/R, plumbing and electrical repair, maintenance, and installation
  • Assist with providing detailed paperwork and documentation to ensure accurate record keeping, billing and inventory. All dispatch and Tech paperwork is done electronically via company provided Windows Surface tablets and iPhone. No need to come into the office and we service a large area.
  • Work professionally, independently and manage time in accordance with dispatch and scheduled work
  • Monitor and maintain inventory to ensure availability of essential parts, materials, tools, and equipment
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in professional and workman-like manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned and assist in other areas of the company

Qualifications
  • One year of repair, installation, and maintenance experience preferably in electrical, plumbing or building service or repair.
  • Already have or commit to acquiring a Universal EPA (Sect 608) Refrigerant and Recovery Certification. Universal Certification must be completed within one year of date of hire.
  • Should possess or develop knowledge of materials, methods, equipment, and tools involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems
  • Possess or develop a mechanical aptitude and an ability to problem solve based on general physics, the refrigeration cycle and electrical circuit theory.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and plumbing/piping drawings
  • Must have strong customer service skills and enjoy working with the public
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule when required that may include weekends, extended hours, and call-out work
  • Must be dependable; trustworthy; possess a positive attitude; and work well with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability and willingness to meet with customers (both existing and potential) to promote Beitzel HVAC/R as well as Beitzel Field Services
  • Ability to foster confidence with customers and maintain repeat business
  • Demonstrated history of Safety and Safety Awareness
  • Ability to establish and build confidence with customers and maintain repeat business

Working Conditions

  • Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb ladders and stairs; and crawl
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds unassisted
  • Must be safety and customer-focused, without exception
  • Required safety equipment: Steel toe and/or metatarsal shoes, protective eye wear, gloves, hard hat, and hearing protection
