Veralto R&D Project Manager in Grand Rapids, Michigan

X-Rite is seeking an experienced project manager to join our hardware R&D team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In this position, you will oversee the development of opto-electronic color and appearance instrumentation including spectrophotometers, spectral imaging systems, embedded systems, and firmware.

In this role, a typical day will look like:

  • Lead projects from concept to delivery and ensure alignment across all domain functions of the full project team including Product Management, Engineering, Compliance, Supply Chain, Production, Service, Sales and Marketing, and Executive Management.

  • Actively drive definition and requirements through voice of customer. Prepare product proposals and support business cases in close collaboration with Product Management and Sales. Take an active role in the product inception and definition. Negotiate and contribute to product specifications, architecture, and concept definition.

  • Deliver status reports to executive and other management teams.

  • Maintain project documentation (master schedule, risk register, issue tracker, key performance metrics, etc.) in accordance with X-Rite’s standard work and project tools.

  • Manage the project budget, expenses, manufacturing costs, and capital expenses.

  • Lead or facilitate daily visual management team meetings, project kaizens, DFMEA/PFMEA, design reviews, and mitigation of project delays and technical hurdles.

  • Negotiate for project recourses and work around team and availability conflicts.

  • Participating in the development of standard work of the project management organization

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in engineering (such as electrical or mechanical).

  • 5 years of professional engineering experience in product development

  • 3-5 additional years as a project manager for multidisciplinary projects (mechanics, optics, electronics, firmware, software) in a technology industry

  • Proven track record in managing product development projects from concept phase through industrialization and production. Comfortable and proficient with the project management toolbox including management of stakeholder requirements, scope, specifications, WBS, resources, schedule, risk, cost and budget, tracking, and reporting.

  • Good business sense and practical knowledge of interacting with customers and/or suppliers.

  • Experience with leading cross-functional, multi-cultural global teams.

  • Understanding of color science and experience in a domain where color plays an important role, such as digital imaging and media, printing and packaging, color standards, textiles, paint, automotive, and mobile computing products preferred.

  • Project management certification preferred.
