At GE Aerospace we design, manufacture, repair and overhaul a range of propeller systems for Military and Civil applications. This is done from our new state of the art facility in Gloucestershire, UK.

In this role you will be part of the NPI team to provide support to the growing demand for new propeller manufacturing systems and contribute to develop the next generation of electrified, sustainable aviation. You will be a highly valued member of the Manufacturing Engineering department who are empowered across GE to ensure design intent is correctly translated using our production system.

You will ensure design for manufacturing remains a key focus during the development cycle of our products. Through development and pilot production you will provide feedback to the design team, aid the design team in resolving issues, supply documentation, tooling, and training to allow the product to be built in a clean manufacturing environment.

With a focus on manufacturability, you will help contribute to the development of new processes, facilities and capabilities and assist with the adoption of automation and new technologies to ensure repeatability and reliability in the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities:

  • Driving the transfer of new products from the design/engineering phase into volume manufacturing. The NPI ME team are the key point of contact for the manufacturing team to ensure manufacturability of new products and delivery of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost requirements.

  • Assessment, planning and delivery of project timescales, enablers and deliverables to ensure timely manufacturing readiness gateway adherence.

  • Influencing design engineering to ensure manufacturing is represented during the product development process and design for manufacture/assembly is a priority consideration for the duration of the programme.

  • Support procurement with creation of technical specifications, project timelines, standards and buy-off criteria for RFQ submissions and vendor selection events.

  • Work closely with third party vendors and sub-contractors on programme targets and specifications from design/planning through to delivery/commissioning and buy-off.

  • Creating build documentation, bill of materials, work instructions, spares & tooling lists and training requirements to ensure a seamless ramp up to volume production.

  • Planning installation, commissioning and verification of new tooling, automation and parts to deliver right first time, process capability and uptime targets.

  • Liaise with the production team to ensure their views are raised in the appropriate forums and they are kept abreast of programme developments and requirements.

  • Work across multiple stakeholders to ensure the handover of a new or modified facility to the operations team.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering with considerable experience or equivalent knowledge and experience in Technical Project / Program Management.

  • Extensive knowledge of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process and elements of project planning

  • Leading projects within a manufacturing NPI setting.

  • Extensive defining FMEAs, the cascade of critical characteristics into control plans and subsequent development of a manufacturing quality operating system.

  • Advanced experience of designing and implementing new automated facilities to maximise asset utilisation and reduce hours per unit/cost per unit.

  • Able to communicate well using logic and reasoning to influence stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage suppliers and contractors on an on-going basis and through local management. Able to collaboratively address challenges and hold to account.

  • Knowledge of health & safety (H&S) and construction design & management (CDM) regulations and means of compliance.

  • Have the ability to work unsupervised (at times) to a set of objectives & targets.

Desired skills

  • Experience with high volume composite (CFRP/RTM) and/or high tolerance machined parts manufacturing.

  • A recognised project management qualification.

  • Knowledge of problem solving methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, PPS, RedX) and APQP requirements.

  • Experience with 3D Catia, 2D AutoCAD and/or another CAD package

  • Experience in working within a highly regulated industry (preferably Aviation but not essential)

  • Knowledge of 3D printing/rapid prototyping tools, CAD packages and part production.

  • Experience incorporating condition-based monitoring & real time data acquisition & synthesis into a ‘factory of the future’ shop floor environment.
