Insight Global Mechanical Design Engineer in Glendale, Wisconsin
Job Description
Insight Global is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to sit 3 days a week on site in Glendale/Milwaukee, WI for one of the world's largest manufacturers and distributors of advanced, low-voltage battery technologies. They manufacture and supply batteries for a wide range of vehicles, including cars, commercial vehicles, and powersports. 1 in 3 vehicles are powered by the clients batteries across 100+ countries worldwide. The Mechanical Design Engineer will design advanced energy storage systems for automotive customers, manage product development to meet deadlines, support product launches at the plant, and handle engineering changes for production products. This person needs to be proficient in SolidWorks and CAD so that they can hit the ground running upon starting the role.
Responsibilities include:
Support component design and development of advanced technology batteries and systems, working with a cross-functional team of engineers.
Take ownership of system design and direct other engineers in sub-system design.
Design complex mechanical components and sub-assemblies using SolidWorks CAD, including plastic/rubber components, metal parts, structural items, and hardware for high-volume production.
Prepare technical drawings of components and assemblies.
Create packaging studies for new product development and review others' studies.
Conduct or oversee FEA and CFD analysis, validation testing, and result interpretation for vibration durability, mechanical shock, crashworthiness, and structural engineering.
Implement and assist with design for manufacturability (DFM) to optimize manufacturing and assembly processes, ensuring ease of handling throughout the product lifecycle.

Skills and Requirements
Bachelor's in mechanical engineering with minimum 5 YOE
Experience in plastic part design and knowledge of injection molding process.
SolidWorks & CAD 3+ years
Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, and automotive development tools.
Previous experience owning design requirements at any point on the product development lifecycle Understanding of phase gate product development processes.
Vehicle level Battery Systems integration/ Transportation experience (Automotive, Power sports, Aviation, Battery Engineer, Consumer devices & electronics)
Working on Lithium-ion batteries, sodium ion batteries, or supercapacitors
Understanding of electrical and thermal engineering
