Job Description

The Manager of UPREIT Tax Compliance will oversee the company's federal and state income tax compliance for its operating partnership. This role involves managing tax filings, ensuring accurate reporting, and maintaining effective communication with limited partners. Additionally, the manager will coordinate with service providers to meet all reporting requirements and address any tax-related issues that arise. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in partnership taxation and a strong ability to manage complex tax compliance processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with direct supervisor in charge of UPREIT operations, manage federal and state income tax compliance aspects of the company’s operating partnership, including but not limited to calculations of book-tax differences, capital account maintenance, and required flow-through disclosures.

  • Support the analysis of computations under IRC Sections 731, 752, 743 and 734.

  • Manage multiple state composite return filings, including quarterly estimates and withholding payments.

  • Assist with regular communications with limited partners on partnership income allocations and partner distributions.

  • Assist in the ongoing administration of the company’s compensatory partnership long-term incentive program (“LTIP”) .

  • Assist with the coordination of service providers to ensure the timely completion of all reporting requirements, as applicable.

  • Handling of tax notices and other official taxing authority communications.

  • Research tax issues on an as-needed basis, including tax reform.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant partnership taxation experience in a tax services environment required. Previous real estate experience highly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of federal and general state partnership income tax compliance rules and regulations, with 2+ years of experience with Form 1065 and associated schedules, required. Familiarity with IRC Sections 704(b) and (c) a plus.

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Taxation required.

  • CPA equivalent or on track for CPA preferred.

  • Must be self-directed, motivated and logical in problem-solving, and well-organized with attention to detail.

  • Has experience with leverage tax technology tools to help identify process inefficiencies and proactively recommend enhancements to optimize tax compliance.

  • Must be able to communicate tax concepts effectively both verbally and through written communication.

  • Desire to be a problem solver with a process improvement mindset.

  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office. Experience with GoSystem Tax RS, Alteryx, BNA Fixed Assets, OneSource Income Tax, and/or OneSource Apportionment a plus.

Additional Information

Compensation

Base Pay Range : $135,000 - $155,000

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of our total awards approach to compensation which is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses or incentives.

Public Storage teammates are expected to work in the office five days each week with the option to take up to three flexible remote days per month.
