We Are Seeking

Water Treatment Plant Mechanics are tasked with the maintenance and repair of water treatment plant related electric motors, pumps, valves, chemical feed systems, chemical mixers, and other related equipment. This requires working closely with other mechanics, instrumentation technicians, plant operators and other personnel, as well as working independently, ensuring the operating continuity of the Town's water treatment plants. We currently have two vacancies, one at our San Tan Water Treatment plant and the other at our North Water Treatment Plant. The position at our San Tan Water Treatment Plant reports to the Water Treatment Plant Supervisor and the position at our North Water Treatment Plant report to our Water Treatment Utility Supervisor.

Ideal candidates will be experienced with water treatment plant mechanical maintenance and repair. Also important are attention to detail, strong "repair or replace" decision making skills, and a creative approach to problem solving. Desirable personal characteristics include the ability to work well independently and within a team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance of water treatment plant equipment.

  • Troubleshoot equipment to determine the length of downtime to allow temporary solutions during repairs.

  • Fabricating critical process components to evaluate the choice of material for compatibility.

  • Repair mechanical failures affecting the water treatment plant process while considering the cost of repair versus replacement.

  • Repair plumbing and piping which affects the water treatment system in a timely manner.

  • Staying current on up-to-date technology for efficiency.

  • Support operational staff by satisfying water production needs and meeting plant operational capacity, supplementing process change for desired outcomes.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Of

  • High degree of mechanical aptitude.

  • Knowledge of the function of how the water treatment plant operates and the operations of water production technology (surface or ground water).

  • Understanding of electrical hazards and safe working practices in an industrial environment including the appropriate safety issues including lock out, tag out and the chemicals used in the process and what is directly related to public health.

  • Knowledge of plumbing and the proper choice of compatible material required for the repair or replacement associated with each pump type.

Skills In

  • Capability to make quality judgement on what equipment is needed and possesses the ability to fix or replace the equipment.

  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations.

  • Repairing and maintaining applicable equipment.

  • Independent problem solving.

  • Competence to organize information and ability to follow written instructions.

  • Display a high degree of professionalism and contributes to the credibility of the team.

  • Possess ability to build positive working relationships with all levels in the organization.

Candidates for a Level I Mechanic must possess the following requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Up to 1 year of specialized or technical training beyond high school is desired.

  • A desired 1 year of specialized training and experience in potable water production , equipment maintenance and industrial applications for plumbing and electrical understanding .

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid AZ Driver's License.

  • ADEQ certification in: Water Distribution Grade I and Water Treatment Grade I desired at time of hire .

  • If Certification is not currently possessed by applicants, they will be granted the ability obtain both within one year of hire. If certification is not obtained within this period Termination may be the result.

  • Pay Range for a Water Treatment Plant Mechanic I is $23.15 - $33.57.

Candidates for a Level II Mechanic must possess the following requirements :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).

  • 1 year or more of specialized or technical training beyond high school is desired in Water/Wastewater Technology .

  • 3 year s of specialized training and experience in potable water production , equipment maintenance and industrial applications for plumbing and electrical understanding .

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid AZ Driver's License.

  • ADEQ certification in: Water Distribution Grade I I and Water Treatment Grade II at time of hire or promotion

  • Desired certifications indicating skill towards welding, fabrication, pipe fitting, electrical application.

  • Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Mechanic II is $26.20 - $37.99.

Candidates for a Level III Mechanic must possess the following requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).

  • 3 year s or more of specialized or technical training beyond high school is desired in Water/Wastewater Technology .

  • 4 year s of specialized training and experience in potable water production , equipment maintenance and industrial applications for plumbing and electrical understanding .

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Valid AZ Driver's License.

  • ADEQ certification in: Water Distribution Grade I I I and Water Treatment Grade I I I at time of hire or promotion

  • C ertifications indicating skill towards welding, fabrication, pipe fitting, electrical application.

  • Pay range for a Water Treatment Plant Mechanic III is $27.81 - $40.32.

This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.
