Position Overview

The UKG Ready Payroll and Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the payroll and tax operations for World Payroll & HR (WPHR). Overseeing WPHR clients’ payrolls and managing the department workloads to ensure payroll services are delivered based on WPHR’s scope of services with a focus on compliance, efficiency, and client satisfaction. The Payroll and Tax Manager leads a team of payroll and tax specialists, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and accurate payroll processing. Additionally, the role involves building and maintaining strong client relationships, addressing client inquiries and concerns, and continuously improving payroll and tax processes and systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Managing Payroll and Tax Operations: Overseeing the day-to-day payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee pay, deductions, and benefits for the World Payroll & HR clients. Follow internal policies and procedures for reporting payroll information and maintaining related records; maintain and update payroll policy manual to include payroll policies and procedures necessary for reference and training materials.

  • Coordinating Daily Payroll Activities: Overseeing functions and monitoring client and administrative workload of payroll specialist and providing backup to the payroll specialist as needed.

  • Team Supervision: Lead and guide a team of payroll specialists and tax specialists, providing training, assigning tasks, and ensuring high-quality work output.

  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensuring compliance with relevant payroll laws, regulations, and tax requirements.

  • Client Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, understanding their payroll and tax needs, addressing any concerns or inquiries they may have, and providing exceptional customer service. Review payroll accuracy related to overtime, withholdings, benefits, and garnishments, and approve manual calculations for special payroll or benefit requirements; coordinate and approve supplemental payrolls. Train client worksite employees on UKG payroll and HR system/mobile application usage and access. Resolve/troubleshoot payroll and tax issues, including assisting payroll specialists with client matters.

  • System Management: Utilizing payroll software (UKG Ready & MasterTax) to efficiently manage payroll processes, troubleshoot issues, and implement system enhancements.

  • Collaboration: Works with internal teams to resolve complex payroll, tax & HR issues, troubleshoot system problems, and implement process improvements. Generate payroll reports, financial data, and other related documents for clients and internal stakeholders.

  • Quality Assurance: Performing regular audits and checks to maintain data integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of payroll information.

  • Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities for streamlining payroll and tax operations, implementing best practices, improving overall efficiency and accuracy, and implementing innovative solutions.

  • Up-to-date Knowledge: Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and changes in regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and provide accurate advice to clients. Perform other related duties or projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required

  • 2+ years of work experience in payroll outsourcing or related field

  • 1+ years of experience managing direct reports 

    Preferred

  • 1-year experience with the UKG Payroll Ready Platform

  • 1-year experience with Mastertax

  • FPC or CPP Certification or obtain within one year of hire

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Payroll processing

  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws/rules and/or other statutes regulated to payroll.

  • Effectively and accurately communicate in writing and verbally.

  • Lead, train, and coordinate the work of others.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Team, and Outlook)

  • Able to multi-task and prioritize client work and projects.

    Education

    Preferred

  • Associate degree in business or a related field

    Work Location & Travel Expectation

    The Payroll & Tax Manager may work from World’s Georgetown, SC office or remotely from the individual’s home. This position may be required to travel up to 20% annually.
