Huron Pines Resource Conservation Development Director in Gaylord, Michigan

The Development Director is responsible for driving and implementing the strategy to support the fundraising efforts of Huron Pines. This position works closely with organizational leadership, communications staff and the organization's development committee. The work of the Development Director includes cultivation of major donors, leading the planned giving program, special project campaigns, and ensuring endowment growth. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create an annual fund development plan, with fundraising goals and a strategy to support long-term financial sustainability for the organization
  • Cultivate and nurture the development of relationships with targeted funders, focusing on individualized communication to facilitate their support and engagement
  • Secure major and planned gifts to sustain and enhance the growth of Huron Pines 
  • Assist in integrating development messaging into external communications and programs
  • Work directly with the Executive Director and Development Committee to develop and implement the fundraising strategy and participate in Leadership Team meetings and tasks as needed. 
  • Develop fundraising reports to track progress
  • Oversee donor recognition program
  • Serve as the staff point of contact for the Development Committee and help coordinate and support their efforts
  • Design strategies for an annual giving program and manage its implementation to ensure its success
  • Develop campaign and fundraising plans for new land protection projects and overall organizational sustainability 
  • Secure sponsorships for event needs
  • Understand and utilize our CRM database (Salesforce) to effectively communicate and make data-driven decisions with donors, partners, and friends of Huron Pines

Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of Huron Pines, a passion for Michigan's natural resources, and a willingness to learn
  • 5 years of experience in successfully leading fundraising efforts
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector, with an understanding and proficiency in working with board/committees, leading volunteers, understanding the regulatory environment and best practices 
  • Familiarity with northern Michigan is helpful
  • Must be able to represent Huron Pines in a professional manner 
  • Posses a valid driver's license, up-to-date car insurance and be willing to travel as needed
  • Proficiency in database management, with the ability to analyze data effectively to inform and shape donor cultivation strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
