Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is an Electrician (MVO), WG-2805-11 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston Operations Division. Responsibilities Perform diagnostic major maintenance inspections, new installation, major maintenance, repairs, parts replacement and/or major overhaul on all floating plant, dam operating systems, flood risk management and navigation facilities, machinery, etc. Perform major maintenance, rehabilitation and new installation of highly complex electrical systems, equipment and generators. Inspect, troubleshoot, and/or disassemble the electrical components of the associated equipment located within the district, (such as generators, pumps, compressors, etc.). Read and comprehend building plans, blueprints, sketches, schematics, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to troubleshoot, plan and layout routing, placement, type, size, gauge and balance of electrical circuits and equipment. Establish records and data and maintains in connection with electrical maintenance and repair work, referring to such records as applicable on subsequent operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician (MVO) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common/complex preventive maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment (circuits, instruments, meters, relays, gauges, carrier units, control systems, transformers, motors, generators, and switch gear apparatus) at Navigational Facilities, Flood Risk Management Projects, Navigation Projects, locks, dams, and various water control structures. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifts and carries larger assemblies or complete units exceeding 50 pounds with assistance. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body in installing, repairing, operating, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, machinery recesses, outlet stilling basin walls, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders, scaffolding, and works from suspended stages. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during the day or night, subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water which is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high traffic and noise areas. Employees are required to follow established safe working procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to minimize or reduce hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
