The Texas Sea Grant College Program is dedicated to the understanding, wise use and stewardship of the state’s coastal and marine resources. It is part of a network of 33 university-based programs in coastal and Great Lakes states that operate as a partnership between the state governments and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the U.S. Department of Commerce. What We Want We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Content Creation and Production Assistant. The ideal candidate will assist in creating, editing, and producing various communication materials, support project timelines, and contribute to social media and digital content strategies. Responsibilities include designing graphic communications, managing digital asset libraries, enhancing multimedia presence, and writing content for reports, brochures, and social media. The candidate should have proficiency in graphic design software, strong writing and editing skills, familiarity with video production, and the ability to translate complex information into engaging content. Organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and willingness to travel along the Texas coast are essential. Familiarity with coastal, marine, or environmental topics is a plus.

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong written and oral communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects.
Ability to work professionally and harmoniously in a service-oriented position.
Self-motivation and ability to manage time efficiently, as well as make quick decisions, with minimal supervision.
Critical thinking skills.
Ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external teams.
Proficiency/mastery with social media channels and emerging social media trends.
Proven ability to create content specifically for social media communication.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience
Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Canva) for creating brochures, reports, and promotional materials
Experience developing visual and written content for both print and digital platforms
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail and brand consistency
Familiarity with video production, including filming, editing, and scriptwriting (experience with Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools)
Comfortable conducting interviews and gathering stories from a variety of audiences, including scientists, partners, and community members
Ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging content for public audiences
Experience working events, including staffing informational tables and engaging with the public
Willingness and ability to travel along the Texas coast, including occasional overnight trips
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Familiarity with coastal, marine, or environmental topics is a plus
Responsibilities
Content Creation and Production Assistance- Assists in creating, editing, designing, and producing various communication materials such as brochures, advertisements, flyers, infographics, newsletters, speeches, and reports. Collaborates on drafting news releases and supports their distribution.
Assists in designing graphic communications pieces within brand guidelines, contributing ideas and executing under guidance. Supports the development and refinement of templates for digital communications including social media, emails, and websites. Helps in managing and organizing digital asset libraries. Contributes to enhancing the multimedia presence of the organization or department through collaborative efforts, including video interviews, recording and production
Project Support and Coordination- Supports project timelines. Participates in developing and refining departmental communications plans, providing support and creative input. Assists in planning and executing projects, focusing on creative implementation under supervision. Assists in contributing to articles, feature stories, and news releases. Supports publishing and updating content on organizational platforms and websites as part of a team effort.
Social Media and Digital Content Assistance- Assists in managing social media channels, contributing creative content ideas and engaging with audiences under guidance. Supports the creation of photography, video, and graphic design for digital and social media content. Assists with implementing strategies and trends in digital communications and analytics with support. Works closely with teams to create print and digital support materials. Assists in contributing to marketing plans through communication and promotional activities. Supports website content updates and participates in web projects with a focus on collaborative execution.
Writing and Editing- Writes content for annual reports, brochures, flyers, news releases, technical papers, proceedings, newsletters, posters and presentations, and web. Translates scientific jargon to commonplace language and assists in managing writing projects. Creates content that supports key social media activities Writes and designed featured research stories and results, impact reports, and other data-visualized content Coordinates the review and approval of all written projects, liaising between the extension team and the Communications Director before publication
