Job Description:

The College of Medicine is looking for a software engineer with experience in deep learning or graph learning methods. This AI Software Engineer position will help advance the science and practice of patient safety by developing various machine learning, deep learning, and graph models as part of the AI/QI program in the UF College of Medicine.

The incumbent will collaborate with teams of clinicians, data scientists, and quality improvement experts to bring myriad machine and deep learning models into regular use by decision makers involved in clinical care and hospital operations.

More About This Role

Create Models

  • Developing predictive models using Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Graph Learning

  • Participate in governance model for operationalizing solutions in accordance with CRISP-ML(Q) principles using MLOps methods

  • Work with subject matter experts in patient care and healthcare operations to ensure appropriate contexts for model development

  • Document code development and communicate project status

  • Please note that we have additional team members focused on curating and preprocessing healthcare data from our electronic health record system

  • Identify and support integration pathways with stakeholders throughout the academic medical center

  • Work with existing teams of data modelers, analysts, MLOps engineers, and end-users to promote a safe and effective lifecycle for AI solutions

Maintenance

  • Review existing and developed models for continuous performance improvement

  • Incorporate new features from text, imaging, waveforms, and ‘-omics’ as they become available into existing and new models

Training

  • Educate researchers, clinicians, and end-users on the theory and practice of machine learning, deep learning, and graph learning

  • Assist summer students and interns with related projects. Please note that while these students will have their own mentors and educational programs, we heavily promote a collaborative learning environment given the heavily trans-disciplinary nature of AI/QI projects

Knowledge Dissemination

  • Reporting of results to key stakeholders including executives, front-line clinicians, and QI communities.

  • Prepare presentations, analyses, and reports for leadership, program design reviews, and operational readiness reviews.

  • Opportunity to attend and present findings at regional, national, and international conferences.

Expected Salary:

$100,000 - $150,000; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

A master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years of experience or a bachelor's degree and six years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience developing deep learning or graph learning projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Academic degrees include but are not limited to computer science, statistics, data science, engineering, operations research, physics, mathematics.

  • Relevant experience includes demonstrated experience with:

  • Applying predictive and prescriptive analytical methods to business, engineering, and/or healthcare problems

  • Portfolio of projects involving deep learning or graph learning methods

  • Software development using Python including common open source frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch

  • Familiarity with high performance computing infrastructure

  • Effective communication skills for interactions with stakeholders in leadership, trainees, and front-line clinical care

  • 5 years in industry role developing predictive deep learning models trained using unstructured and structured data
