Hub International Senior Underwriter - Workers Compensation in Frisco, Texas

Summary :

Specialty Comp Insurance Solutions (“SCIS”) is seeking a Senior Workers’ Compensation Underwriter to facilitate the rollover, ongoing growth, and profitability of an existing portfolio of security guard, alarm, investigation and security consulting risks (“the Security Guard Portfolio”) currently controlled by SCIS’ sister company, The Mechanic Group. In addition to the Security Guard Portfolio, the successful candidate may develop, manage, and grow a profitable book of non-security related workers’ compensation insurance business through independent agents and specialty producers. The candidate is responsible for developing a strong working relationship with the underwriting team at the Mechanic Group to successfully renew existing security policies; and create new territories, products and distribution relationships.

Responsibilities include managing the Security Guard Portfolio as well as soliciting new agents; reviewing, analyzing, determining best fit, and approving or rejecting both simple and complex workers compensation insurance applications. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), along with time management, strong mathematical aptitude, analytical skills, and sales tenacity are requisite for success.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Successfully underwrite and roll-over Security Guard Portfolio to SCIS

  • Assist in the development of pricing approaches, algorithms, and workflows for security guard submissions of varying size and complexity

  • Foster existing, and develop new agency relationships

  • Generate new sales volume through existing customers

  • Retain existing clients and maintain excellent service standards

  • Review accounts for proper classification and adherence to underwriting guidelines

  • Analyze and document accounts to determine exposure, fit and appropriate pricing

  • Conduct internal self-audits

  • Gather information and report on competitors

  • Represent the company professionally at events/shows

  • Provide ongoing management of the business for underwriting quality and service

  • Gain in-depth knowledge of SCIS products and services

  • Communicate frequently with production partners

  • Work with all internal departments and our partners to resolve problems and maintain carrier relations

  • Train and mentor underwriting assistants

  • Attain proficiency with all agency management and policy administration systems in order to efficiently process business

  • Emphasize benefits of the SCIS value proposition to producers and co-workers

  • Participate as necessary on special committees and projects

  • Create and maintain periodic management reports

Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree preferred, or equivalent experience and background including familiarity with rating organizations and insurance regulations

  • 10+ years insurance experience with at least 5 years of workers compensation underwriting and a strong background with security industry related risks

  • Experience overseeing affinity or safety group programs is highly desirable

  • Working knowledge of WC manual rules, classification procedures, etc.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Excellent sales and communication demeanor

  • Self-starter, creative, and team oriented

  • Demonstrated command of the English Language

  • Ability to organize work; perform with time constraints and be self-directed

  • Ability to thrive in a remote work environment

  • Strong mathematical aptitude

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

  • Ability to adapt to significant change (procedures, processes, and techniques)

Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $135,000-$150,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
