Emergency Medical Services Paramedic/MICT

Job Summary:

The Paramedic/MICT will render advanced life support to the patient. Will perform veni-puncture, intravenous therapy, gastric suctioning, endotracheal intubation, and administer parenteral injections of any of the following classes of drugs: antiarrhythmic, vagolytic, chronotropic, analgesic, alkalinizing and vasopressor agents.

Education Requirements:

Graduate from High School or equivalent

Certification for MICT

Basic Computer Skills

Valid Drivers License

CPR Certified, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS or TNCC, NRP strongly advised

Working conditions:

Healthcare environment can be stressful and fast-paced. Flexibility and ability to adapt to change is important. May be exposed to patients with communicable disease, situations and/or patients that have the potential for exposure to infectious / hazardous materials. Wears personal protective equipment as required.

Physical requirements:

Must be able to carry and lift equipment

Maintain good mental and physical health.

Health must not hinder the care and well being of patients and other personnel.

Must be able to lift and carry patients

Responsibilities:

Maintain safe and efficient driving practices

Within one month of hire must be able to pass proficiency test and physical agility test (see policy)

Maintain a professional attitude when dealing with patients, community, and other allied medical personnel.

Perform duties in accordance with established protocols

Maintain confidentiality

Follow standard precautions

Response time will be within 3 5 minutes when on first call.

Work regularly scheduled days for routine, take emergency calls, be available for transfers to other facilities

Daily duties include:

Fluid levels of ambulance

Checking emergency lights

Tire pressure

Oxygen Tanks

Change AED battery

Stock supplies in ambulance

Clean exterior and interior of ambulance

Power spray ambulance garage

Stock linen and equipment cabinets, as needed

Complete run reports before the end of shift

Empty trash, as needed

Quality control of glucose monitor

Check intravenous equipment

Check drugs

Check laryngoscope

Participate in Quality Assurance Program

Participate in writing and updating policies

Follow established Illness Policy

Assist with procedures/emergencies in the ER

Respond as a member of the code blue team to cardiac arrest in the ER and on Medical Surgical Floor

Flexible scheduling may be required for heavy patient load days, covering for illness, and vacations. Set schedules cannot be promised, as staff without the specialized training cannot be used to cover the shifts.

Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings

Perform other duties as assigned
