A Day in the Life

This position will provide subject matter expertise on issues regarding hospital operations, patient care services, and clinical program development specific to disease states and procedures and will work to build and deliver solutions that will optimize care delivery in processes, cost containment, and other efficiencies. This position works in conjunction with the Directors of Enterprise Accounts to co-own targeted plans and carry out certain portions of the plan. The position works with external health systems to build relationships that are critical to evaluate, plan, and coordinate and/or deliver needed services. This position will work closely with the Directors of Enterprise Accounts, Enterprise Accounts Services, key personnel from the respective Operating Units, and other Medtronic functions.

The successful candidate for this position will have extensive healthcare administrative or extensive consulting experience in the medical or med tech sector as well as appropriate clinical and/or financial experience. This position will interact with senior hospital administrators, clinical and medical leaders, and Medtronic leadership. The Director will possess a solid working knowledge of patient care systems in various sites of care as well as clinical and financial data relevant to healthcare systems.

Essential Functions:

Works in conjunction with the Directors of Enterprise Accounts and other relevant Enterprise Account and Operating Unit positions to evaluate and determine healthcare systems appropriate for partnership opportunities and to support efforts to build the relationships. Evaluates and determines needed program offerings for hospitals and healthcare systems to capture improvements in patient flow, patient outcomes, revenue stream, and other areas for efficiency and/or program growth. Helps determine program offerings that are needed and participates as subject matter expert in the development and delivery of the offerings. Interacts and collaborates with hospital and physician stakeholders to determine value related strategies and programs. Ensure the implementation of best practices in hospital, ASC, or clinic setting, developing performance monitoring tools, establishing KPIs, and supporting business initiatives to drive business growth and success. Demonstrate robust analytical and decision-making skills, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional presentation abilities. Identify customer needs and provide effective solutions through comprehensive business analysis. Works to train and instill a Strategic Account Management focus with Directors of Enterprise Accounts. May contribute as primary core team member for projects related to health system value analysis, operational efficiency, therapy access, market development, and related engagements. Engages with and interfaces with the operating units as well as other areas of Medtronic. May provide project management for certain health system engagements. Contributes to projected strategies, resources, and timelines required to verify and alleviate reimbursement barriers to therapy adoption. May participate on due diligence functional reviews related to therapy adoption, clinical relevance, patient outcome improvements, or business opportunities. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • BA or BS in nursing or related life science, business, or healthcare area;

  • MS, MPH, MHA, or MBA preferred

Experience:

  • Patient care/clinical work and/or supervisory/administrative experience in healthcare systems for at least 8 years required plus track record of progressive responsibility; neuroscience or cardiovascular service line experience required. Executive Director or VP level experience preferred.

  • Other consideration, healthcare consulting experience in consulting industry plus track record of progressive responsibility.

  • Knowledge of the efficiency and revenue mechanisms for various areas of care, e.g. inpatient, outpatient, ancillary services, ASC, home health.

  • Working knowledge of hospital business systems including performance metrics, process flow, and managed care contracting.

  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance systems, quality improvement, and training requirements and including coding, coverage, and payment mechanisms.

  • Understanding of the medical device industry.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare reform initiatives including VBHC, risk sharing, & population health.

  • Specialized training in one or more of the following areas: clinical, financial, healthcare administration, healthcare consulting.

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong Strategic and Business Acumen skills. Understanding of P&L and customer financial statements.

  • Strong negotiating skills.

  • Proven ability to successfully execute a complex implementation process and coordinate interaction with the C-Suite.

  • In depth knowledge of healthcare industry, environment and GPOs/IDNs.

  • Experience in reading, analyzing and writing strategic plans and proposals with customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence in a matrixed environment and to work effectively with in-house functional team, sales teams, and customers.

  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.

  • Proven ability to build and facilitate strong, productive working relationships with a wide variety of cross-functional and customer contacts.

  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability in a rapidly changing business environment; ability to rapidly acclimate to change and embrace new business opportunities.

Working Conditions

Travel will be required at approximately 60%. Flexible working conditions include working remotely when not traveling.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$172,000.00 - $258,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
