Job Summary

The Field Operations Assistant provides logistical and operational support to Project Managers, helping to ensure materials, tools, and site needs are met efficiently. This role requires a basic understanding of civil construction, strong work ethic, flexibility, and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Pick up and deliver materials, tools, and equipment to various job sites

  • Source and procure supplies from vendors, suppliers, or local retailers

  • Support maintenance of traffic (MOT) tasks (e.g., checking barrels, lights on signs)

  • Perform minor layout duties (e.g., layout of traffic control signs, white line areas for utility locates)

  • Place 'No Parking' signs on city projects as needed

  • Assist with INDOT bulletin boards as necessary

  • Take and submit photos for project documentation (e.g., white line locates, end-of-project)

  • Provide project support for INDOT MOT and stormwater inspections

  • Assist with water line testing by transporting samples to/from lab

  • Help clean completed job sites (e.g., pick up materials, remove signage, pull survey stakes, sweep sidewalks)

  • Perform general errands and site coordination tasks to support Project Managers

  • Complete light administrative tasks such as organizing project documents and data entry

  • Maintain timely and safe delivery practices in compliance with safety standards

  • Serve as liaison between field crews, vendors, and the office

  • Serves as a courier and travels to all plant locations twice a week

  • Gathers documents, parts, and/or other necessary items from the main office for delivery to the plants

  • Delivers collected items to the appropriate plant locations in a timely manner

    Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist others in department as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Required Skills and Abilities

  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when needed

  • Valid driver's license; travel up to 70-mile radius from home office

  • Compliance with company Drug-Free & Alcohol-Free Workplace policies

  • Strong attendance, punctuality, reliability, and work ethic

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and follow procedures

  • Team-oriented with independent problem-solving skills

    Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a construction environment

  • Previous hands-on construction experience in horizontal/civil construction is preferred

    Physical Requirements

  • Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. frequently

  • Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs. frequently

  • Driving: Regular driving of automatic and possibly standard transmission vehicles

  • Movement Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and occasionally reaching above shoulder level, climbing and crawling

  • Use of Hands: Frequent use of hands for grasping, handling materials, and occasionally keyboarding

    Working Environment

  • Works in a combination of office and field environments (approx. 20% office, 80% field)

  • Ability to work in adverse conditions, including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, water, mud, dust, etc.

  • Interaction with internal team members (Project Managers, Foremen, Superintendents) and external contacts (vendors, suppliers)
