What you’ll do
We’re looking for an Economic Analyst to join the ArcBest Technologies team. The Economic Analyst provides economic insight and utilizes statistical forecasting techniques to drive business decisions and strategy. Decision-makers at all levels rely on the Economic Analyst to provide timely, accurate, and actionable data, analysis, and commentary for strategic and tactical planning. This position is directly involved with tracking external economic variables and how they relate to ArcBest business levels and more broadly to the transportation and logistics industry.
Your contribution may include:
Conduct various analyses to identify which macroeconomic measures best align with ArcBest’s business (asset-based and asset-light).
Predict upcoming movement in economic indicators (including recession probabilities, manufacturing outputs, retail sales among others, etc.).
Communicate extensively with executive leadership to discuss the current macroeconomic environment and its implications for our business.
Prepare economic slides and commentary in advance of Strategy Review and Board meetings.
Create economic and industry summaries and analysis for ArcBest customers, including QBR material and blog posts.
Capture and assimilate external forecasts for relevant economic indicators.
Quantify statistically significant relationships between new macro-economic indicators and ArcBest business levels by service line.
Create weekly economic commentary to share with numerous ArcBest leaders.
Assist with ongoing artificial intelligence initiatives, including predictive and prescriptive analytics models, as beneficial.
Other duties and projects, as assigned.
As an Economic Analyst, you will be a member of the ArcBest Technologies Advanced Analytics team in Fort Smith, AR. Your hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with irregular hours that may occur depending on workload.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in economics, statistics, or other related field, preferred. Master's Degree in economics, statistics, or other related field, preferred.
Experience: Prior statistical forecasting experience.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, required.
Additional Requirements: Passion for economics and how it relates to the transportation and logistics industry, required.
