South Dakota Municipal League Director of Member Engagement in Fort Pierre, South Dakota

Position Title: Director of Member Engagement for the South Dakota Municipal League Reports to: Executive Director Salary Range: $55,000 - $70,000 annually plus full benefits

Position Summary: The Director of Member Engagement plays a pivotal role in fostering positive relationships and ensuring active participation among member municipalities within the Municipal League. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance member engagement, promote collaboration, and support the League's mission of advocating for the collective interests of municipalities. This role serves as a primary coordinator of services for affiliate groups

Key Responsibilities: 1. Member Outreach: Proactively engage with member municipalities to understand their needs, concerns, and priorities. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders at various levels within member municipalities. Provides information to municipalities when requested. 2. Program Development: Collaborate both internally and externally to design and implement programs, initiatives, and resources that add value to member municipalities. This may include training sessions, workshops, webinars, and networking events. 3. Communication: Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop effective communication channels to disseminate information, updates, and resources to member municipalities. 4. Advocacy Support: Assist in coordinating advocacy efforts on behalf of member municipalities. Provide support in identifying key issues, drafting position statements, and mobilizing member municipalities for collective action. Assists in lobbying efforts if desired. 5. Membership Retention and Growth: Develop strategies to retain existing members and attract new municipalities to join the League. Identify opportunities to expand membership base and increase engagement levels. 6. Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data related to member engagement, satisfaction, and participation. Use insights to identify trends, assess effectiveness of engagement strategies, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement. 7. Collaboration and Partnership: Cultivate partnerships with external organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to enhance the League's resources and offerings for member municipalities. 8. Training and Development: Provide guidance and support to League staff and member municipalities on best practices for member engagement, communication, and advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in member engagement, community outreach, or association management, preferably in a municipal or governmental setting.
  • Strong understanding of local government structures, policies, and issues.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and use of relevant software tools.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the South Dakota Municipal League.
