Butler Elementary School Principal

Supervisor:The Superintendent or Designee Supervises:The academic and support personnel assigned to the Principals Attendance Center(s). Contract Length: 224 days of service Job Classification:Exempt/ Administration Compensation:$95,000 - 105,000

**Job Summary: To provide leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills that will promote the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

Essential Duties:

  • Structure and make use of regular and systematic classroom observations to increase teacher effectiveness demanding high quality of performance from all staff members.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff and encourage creative and innovative instruction.
  • Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the schools staff and students.
  • Provide leadership in the improvement of the total educational program within the school community.
  • Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of school curriculum and the evaluation of instructional materials.
  • Interpret school goals and objectives to students, teachers, and parents.
  • Plan, schedule, and assign duties to all staff members.
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary according to due process.
  • Operate the attendance center/centers to which he/she is assigned within the limits of the Code of Iowa, negotiated contracts, board policy, administrative regulations, and District procedure.
  • Delegate authority and responsibility where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and adheres to applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
  • Provide for the schools total needs in requisitioning equipment and supplies within the funds allocated.
  • Assist in the development and administration of the budget in the area of responsibility.
  • Distributes the allocated building resources (facility, staff, equipment, budget, and supplies) in a way which results in a positive, safe, and productive school climate for staff and students.
  • Establishes and maintains the operation of the attendance center(s) to ensure the safety and security of students, school personnel, and school property.
  • Recognize accomplishments and achievements of students and staff.
  • Assist in the implementation of supportive services in meeting the needs of students and staff.
  • Maintain a positive image for the school as well as good public relations within the community.
  • Initiates and maintains communication with the various building level publics ensuring a trusting and cooperative relationship between the school, parents, students, and the community.
  • Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  • Establish and maintain effective learning climate in the school.
  • Work with various members of the central administrative staff on problems/projects of district wide importance.
  • Report to the central office regularly concerning the needs of the school with respect to personnel, transportation, budget, equipment, supplies and curriculum.
  • Assist in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, in-service orientation, evaluating, and dismissing of the schools professional staff and classified staff as outlined by the Board Policy and negotiated agreement.
  • Assist in the general supervision and maintenance of the physical building and grounds.
  • Participate in principals meetings, negotiations meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate.
  • Act as liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging com unity participation in school life.
  • Help coordinate building use by school personnel or outside groups.
  • Maintain confidentiality in the school operation.
  • Promote and conduct professional growth among all building level staff members.
  • Delegate authority to personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the administrator.
  • Serves as a role model for students and staff to promote lifelong learning, and conduct that is driven by integrity, ethics, and fairness.
  • Promote and integrate the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
  • Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Carries out other general administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must possess the qualifications and certification set by the Code of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Education in regard to Administrator and Evaluator License.

Successful experience in public school administration preferred.

Demonstrates the ability to lead faculty and staff through first and second order change.

Demonstrates the ability to model, implement, monitor and evaluate research based instructional strategies.
