Description of Work Unit
The University’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence is a longstanding one that reflects our role and mission as a land grant institution and recognizes the work that is needed to precipitate change. Founded in 2010, the Office for Inclusive Excellence leads diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at Colorado State University. Our goal is to further develop an environment where all members of the University community are welcomed, valued, and affirmed. We achieve this by focusing on the following areas:
Increase recruitment, retention, and promotion of faculty, staff and students from historically marginalized and underrepresented populations;
Partner with other CSU units to ensure students are more culturally competent and have skills to enter into a diverse global workplace;
Improve the university climate of inclusion;
Enhance effectiveness of curriculum, educational programs, and research, with regard to diversity and inclusion, and
Increase outreach and engagement with external communities.
Position Summary
The Assistant Vice President ( AVP ) of Inclusive Excellence, Strategic Student Success Initiatives will provide leadership and execution of initiatives that promote inclusive academic experiences for underrepresented, underserved and/or marginalized students in collaboration with academic colleges, the alumni association, student affairs, student success and enrollment management. The AVP will have oversight for the following areas: Cultural Resource Centers, OIE undergraduate research initiatives (e.g. MURALS ) and community engagement. The AVP will also serve as liaison to Student Affairs, the Graduate School, Student Success and other student-centered campus partners deemed appropriate. The AVP will report directly to the Vice President for Inclusive Excellence.

Required Job Qualifications
Master’s degree
Minimum of 10 years of progressive professional higher education experience working on initiatives related to student success and inclusive excellence
5-7 years of supervisory experience
Demonstrated experience developing and leading large scale programmatic efforts that involve multiple stakeholders
Extensive experience working with/supporting diverse populations (e.g. race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, religion, etc.)
Deep understanding of social justice and intersectionality in student development and more broadly, within inclusive excellence work
Skill analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data to demonstrate impact
Strong record of cross-campus collaboration, specifically including academic and student affairs
Demonstrated experience working directly with students and student programming
Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the position start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Ph.D. or Ed.D.
Professional experience at a large public land grant research university
Demonstrated proficiency with academic scholarship on retention and student success
Excellent interpersonal skills with diverse constituencies (students, administrators, faculty and staff)
Demonstrated project management experience
Experience analyzing, interpreting, and presenting qualitative and quantitative data to educate stakeholders and inform decision making, especially related to student success
Experience working in student affairs with diverse student populations.
Demonstrated experience with Minority Serving Institutions, particularly, Emerging Hispanic Serving Institutions

Lead, oversee, and manage the seven Cultural Resource Centers:

Black/African American Cultural Center (B/ AACC )
El Centro
Native American Cultural Center ( NACC )
Pride Resource Center
Student Disability Center ( SDC )
Survivor Advocacy and Feminist Education ( SAFE ) Center
Collaborate with Institutional Research, to use a data-informed approach in working with academic colleges to improve retention and graduation rates for underrepresented students
Cultivate partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to create post-graduation opportunities for diverse students
Work with the Alumni Association to actively engage alumni from diverse backgrounds supporting inclusive excellence initiatives
Oversee budgets associated with Student Success Initiatives
Proactively supports and collaborates with HR to develop and implement strategic talent acquisition, retention and talent management plans aligned to increase operational efficiencies and effectiveness to support a diverse workforce
