Fairfield University Associate Director, Communications & University Storyteller in Fairfield, Connecticut

Job Description:

Position Summary: Fairfield University is seeking an accomplished Senior Writer and Storyteller to join our Communications & Marketing team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications & Community Relations, this role involves editorial skills for the Fairfield University Magazine , other leading University publications, and spearheading marketing initiatives for the new Center for Arts & Minds, set to launch in Summer 2024. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of exceptional writing, storytelling, and marketing skills, with a proven ability to elevate the university's narrative and visibility.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Editorial Leadership: Craft and curate compelling stories that highlight the diverse and impactful work of Fairfield University and the Center for Arts & Minds. Working with the Editor of Fairfield University Magazine, assist in the creation and strategy of engaging content.

  • Story Design and Execution: Develop and execute high-quality stories through professional design, writing, and editing. Ensure that content aligns with the university’s mission and engages both internal and external audiences.

  • Marketing Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Center for Arts & Minds to create and implement comprehensive marketing strategies. Promote the Center as a premier destination for arts and culture within the university and the broader community.

  • Visibility Enhancement: Design and execute targeted campaigns to increase the visibility of the arts and community programming. Position Fairfield University as a cultural leader and attract a diverse audience.

  • Day-to-Day Management: Oversee daily marketing and communications activities for the Center for Arts & Minds, ensuring smooth operations and effective outreach.

  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the university’s communications and marketing objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Arts Administration, English/Creative Writing, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, ideally within arts administration or higher education.

  • Editorial Expertise: Strong background in content development, editing, creative direction, and publication management. Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written materials.

  • Strategic Marketing Skills: Proven track record in developing and executing marketing strategies that enhance organizational visibility and audience engagement.

  • Project Management: Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
