The Role

Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes, supporting the achievement of the UCI’s business goals and objectives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform highly diversified duties to maintain and repair production machines (both CNC and manual) and the plant facilities equipment.

  • Works with internal customers and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve machine and production equipment issues.

  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.

  • Perform technical duties including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting and repair.

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.

  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test, and make adjustments to production equipment.

  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines and equipment.

  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.

  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.

  • Completes minor repairs and maintenance in buildings such as changing light bulbs, replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.

  • Assist outside vendors engaged in machinery repairs, equipment installations, and facility repairs when needed.

  • Support Manufacturing operations as needed such as emptying chip hoppers

  • Manage outside metals recycle containers and pick-up

  • Participate in 5s and Lean manufacturing activities.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by manager based on business needs.

Competencies

  • Good organizational and record keeping skills.

  • Ability to be flexible and respond to priorities as they change.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, and have good interpersonal skills including ability to work successfully with a diverse group of staff.

  • Must be detail oriented and be able to handle more than one task at a time making sure that each task is followed through to completion.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or completion of maintenance-related vocational training.

  • Three to five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience operating a forklift.

  • Knowledge of CNC and manual production equipment, including (but not limited to): lathes, mills, gear shapers, grinders, and/or broaching machines.

  • Knowledge of electrical systems and ability to troubleshoot and work with up to 480 volt, 3-phase power.

  • Experience with Okuma, Siemens, and FANUC controls a plus.

Computer Skills

Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and Outlook.

Language/Mathematical/Reasoning/Mechanical Skills

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to communicate maintenance statuses to responsible machine operator or supervisor. Ability to add and subtract numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The position requires good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity, and the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell.

This job operates in a standard manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Safety glasses and safety shoes are required throughout the Shop Floor and hearing protection is recommended, except for certain manufacturing areas, which always require hearing protection.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is required to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; around fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
