The role

Data stewards play a crucial role in the data governance efforts, upholding data integrity throughout the operations and processes in Nestle. They are the primary driver in ensuring that the data remains usable by default. To achieve this, data stewards proactively manage the product lifecycle specific to their domains. They also collaborate with various business domains to maintain the utility and accuracy of data in line with the requirements of data consumers. By prioritizing data stewardship, Nestlé reinforces its approach to data product management and the continuous improvement of the most critical data assets.

A data steward is typically an individual from either a business or technical background who has a deep knowledge and understanding of data within their related data domain and works closely with the source of data, such as customers. They operate within a multi-disciplinary team tasked with applying FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable), to the domain data products. By doing so, they have collective accountability and control over the quality of the data produced for their domains.
