Elizabeth School District Public Information Officer in Elizabeth, Colorado

POSITION: Public Information Officer

DUTIES: * Strategic Communication: Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans to effectively convey the school district's goals, initiatives, and achievements to internal and external stakeholders. * Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets. Serve as the primary spokesperson for the school district, responding to media inquiries, arranging interviews, and issuing press releases. * Crisis Communication: Develop protocols and procedures for handling crisis situations and emergencies. Act as the primary point of contact for coordinating communication efforts during crisis situations, ensuring accurate and timely information is disseminated to stakeholders. * Content Creation: Create engaging and informative content for various communication channels, including press releases, newsletters, social media posts, website updates, and presentations. * Community Engagement: Organize and facilitate community outreach events, forums, and meetings to promote dialogue and collaboration between the school district and the community. Actively seek feedback from stakeholders to inform communication strategies. * Internal Communication: Develop and implement strategies to improve internal communication within the school district, ensuring that staff members are informed about important developments, policies, and initiatives. * Brand Management: Protect and enhance the school district's reputation by monitoring media coverage, addressing misinformation or negative publicity, and promoting positive stories and achievements. * Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to public information and communication, including open records laws and copyright regulations. * Budget Management: Manage the budget allocated for communication activities, including expenses related to advertising, printing, and media relations. * Professional Development: Stay informed about trends and best practices in public relations, communication, and education policy. Participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.

REQUIREMENTS: * Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Master's degree preferred. * Previous experience in public relations, media relations, or journalism, preferably in an educational or government setting. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences. * Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders, including media representatives, school administrators, staff members, parents, and community members. * Crisis communication experience, with the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure. * Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, website content management systems, and email marketing software. * Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing public information and communication. * Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines. * Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours as needed, including evenings and weekends for events and emergencies.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

Master s degree in communications or Public Relations

WAGE: $90,000-$110,000/annually

SHIFTS: 8-hour days/260 contract days
