Robert Half Sr. Accountant in Elizabeth City, North Carolina

Description We are searching for a experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in the education sector, specifically within a university environment. This role will be based in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and will involve assisting with reporting review, statement audit, IAFR preparation, and GASB interpretation. This position provides a short term contract employment opportunity, where the incumbent will play a crucial role in our financial operations.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the preparation and review of financial reports

• Participate in statement audits to ensure accuracy and compliance

• Prepare Individual Annual Financial Reports (IAFR) and interpret Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines

• Leverage proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Banner for efficient and accurate data handling

• Undertake account reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliation as a part of month-end close

• Apply knowledge of financial aid and contracts, grants, and fund accounting in the higher education or non-profit sector

• Possess thorough knowledge of the year-end close process, including transitioning from cash basis to accrival basis, preparation of CAFR Package, and Financial Statements

• Engage in account code creation for efficient financial management

• Manage foundation accounting, endowment management, and debt issuance processes. Requirements • Possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting or related field

• Hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline

• Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel

• Show experience with Banner or other similar financial software systems

• Have knowledge of Month End Close processes

• Display expertise in Account and Balance Sheet Reconciliation

• Exhibit experience in handling Student Financial Aid, Endowments, and Debt

• Be familiar with Annual Financial Reporting

• Understand and apply GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) standards

• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• High attention to detail and accuracy

• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

• Commitment to continuous learning and development in the accounting field

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
