Department Summary:

N114 Warfighter Space Services Department delivers innovative, world-class products and services, to enable effective and resilient warfighting capabilities that the United States Space Force (USSF) can use to defeat threats and dominate the Space domain. The N114 work portfolio supports developing and delivering rapid, resilient, sustainable, and global access to an integrated satellite communication (SATCOM) Enterprise across the DoD and International Partners. N114 employs world class systems engineering, SATCOM, PNT, remote sensing, space cyber, and digital engineering SMEs to help our sponsors solve the nation’s Space challenges of today and tomorrow.

As a member of our Space Services Department team, you will help solve our nation's most technically challenging problems and work in the public interest building a more capable and resilient space enterprise. This work will be conducted collaboratively with multiple MITRE and government organizations. You will fill the role as the MITRE Milcomm Enterprise Engineering Support to the Space Systems Command (SSC) Military Communication (MilComm) and PNT (MCPNT).

Roles and Responsibilities:

We are seeking a Principal Staff member to foster external partnerships that advance the research and implementation of satellite communications and other communication solutions for the U.S. Government. The successful candidate will have a solid technical background and research experience in satellite communications, cyber security, prototyping, and systems engineering. Essential to this role is proven experience in technical leadership, government acquisitions, and academic and government research activities. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are also a prerequisite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the MITRE engagement leader and primary technical advisor to MCPNT Government Leadership in Tactical, Strategic, Narrowband, and Futures MilComm mission areas.

  • Perform system engineering trade studies, analyze systems, requirements, and architectures, and evaluate technologies to support investment recommendations for current and future MilComm architectures.

  • Propose integration actions, system modifications, and technology insertion initiatives, and advocate for these recommendations with stakeholders.

  • Work closely with a diverse range of Government and non-Government personnel, both technical and non-technical, to explain and advocate for MITRE’s technical recommendations.

  • Lead the MITRE team in assessing proposed changes to the MilComm architecture, identifying potential concerns, and recommending solutions.

  • Identify and assess risks that could hinder MilComm from fulfilling its mission requirements and develop risk mitigation plans.

    Basic Qualifications:

  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a US government Top Secret clearance.

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience. Proven technical expertise in the field of systems engineering in one or more of the following mission areas: satellite communications, space data transport, space command and control, operational assessments, prototyping and experimentation, and cyber security engineering

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to build consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and government to advance state of the art in satellite communications and address issues of national impact

  • Expertise in the design of satellite communications systems, command and control, link budget analysis, components, networking and software

  • Experience identifying and applying emerging technologies to satellite communications within US Government programs

  • Experience fostering an environment and culture of innovation, technical leadership, collaboration, camaraderie, and technical quality

  • Experience leading teams developing or evaluating communications and other electronic systems

  • Passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD TS/SCI clearance

  • Expertise in one or more of the following mission areas: Tactical, Strategic, and Narrowband Military Communications

  • Recognized expertise in the field of systems engineering in one or more of the following mission areas: satellite communications, space data transport, space command and control, operational assessments, prototyping and experimentation, and cyber security engineering

  • Domain-specific expertise and/or related education

  • MSEE or equivalent in communications, electronic systems, and cyber technologies

  • 10 years of relevant experience and/or related education

  • Proven ability to work with senior government leaders and stakeholders

  • Proven ability to lead complex, multi-organizational studies, analyses, resulting in actionable recommendations.

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$167,500 - $209,500 - $251,500 Annual
