Job Summary:

The Systems Engineering and Integration Test Center (SE) is seeking strong, technically sound engineering leaders committed and passionate about creating innovative, cost-effective solutions for complex Electro-Optic Infrared (EO/IR) applications. The successful candidate will be a member of the Space Sensors EO/IR Department and will provide engineering guidance for the development of product based, integration, verification, and validation through the life cycle of programs and will execute on the test floor supporting execution and product evaluation for the EO/IR space program.

Responsible for identifying system drivers, characterizing the EO/IR payload architecture, defining the preliminary concept, establishing payload size and performance and verification approaches based upon mission requirements. The candidate will be assessing architecture performance against requirements to identify technical risks, and cost drivers. Additionally you will help create system engineering models, system, and unit level requirements, perform analysis, and identify technical risks cost drivers to include but not limited to providing verification methods and test approaches to ensure execution of the Requirements Verification Plan and Test Requirements Document.

This is an On-Site role in El Segundo, California

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Achieve day-to-day objectives with major impact on operational results within work area.

  • Participate in IPT (Integrated Product Team) meetings to ensure success of product designs and engineering changes.

  • Manage projects or processes within area of responsibility.

  • Maintain legacy Support Test Equipment (STE) for lower level and system level tests.

  • Conduct system level tests at Thermal Vacuum chamber for EOIR calibration and performance

  • Prepare content and data requests for Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Failure Review Board (FRB), Consent to Ship Review (CTSR)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related STEM discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience with specific experience in the following areas below:

  • Systems engineering experience in EO/IR payloads, Sensors, or Units for space applications

  • Sensor payload and instrument level testing which can include test equipment development and validation.

  • Requirements development, maintenance, and management of requirements using model-based systems engineering tools, or DOORS requirement database management.

  • Present in written and oral forms to managers, peers, and customers

  • An active DoD Top Security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Verification methodologies and processes for space qualified sensors

  • Optical engineering and design integration – interpreting sensor/payload/mission requirements and decomposing to design requirements and verification techniques.

  • Environmental test methods and practices for space applications

  • Experience with requirements verification and sell-off.

  • IV&V formal reviews such as Test Readiness Review (TRR), Failure Review Board (FRB), Consent to Ship Review (CTSR)

  • Technical background in radiometry, thermometry, and calibration techniques.

  • Project management

  • Earned value management systems (EVMS) and usage as a management tool

The salary range for this role is 130,000 USD - 272,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
