Sr Director, Refinery Operations

Job Summary:

Oversees all Refinery Operations to ensure the highest level of safety, environmental, productivity, and reliability compliance. Participate in developing and establishing operating objectives, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency, minimize operating costs, protect assets, and ensure quality control. Prepare budget for the Operations Department including Complex Maintenance and control expenses to ensure that costs are within budget. Maintain effective organization to meet both short- and long-term goals. Set safety goals and objectives for the operations Department and manage a safety program to meet or exceed those goals and objectives. Develop operating procedures for all new units or equipment and assist Engineering in the review and selection of new units or equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and support of a behavior-based safety culture at every employee level.

  • Manages, controls, and implements improvements in the day-to-day operations of the refinery.

  • Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes.

  • Develop and implement annual business plans (financial, safety, environment, quality, personnel, etc.) in alignment with refinery and corporate objectives.

  • Provide effective leadership for all Operations’ Department activities by actively utilizing tools such as standard work to drive KPI’s, to measure and improve Plant performance

  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards as it relates to production, quality, process engineering, distribution, and scheduling to meet Business Plan goals

  • Coordinate technical resources across refinery to improve performance and reliability while prioritizing opportunities for future improvements, and to reduce operating costs

  • Accountable for ensuring reliable and cost-effective operations while meeting or exceeding federal, state, corporate and industry standards, and leading practices in Safety, Environmental, and Quality.

  • Develop Department Staff through training, performance management and career development using evaluation process, review process and other resources available

  • Motivate, encourage, and support the Operations’ Staff to find and implement solutions and corrective actions

Required Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

More than 15 years of related experience in Refining Operations

At least 5 years of management experience

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications – Education, Skills & Experience:

Master's or MBA degree typically preferred
