Digital Services Product Software Architect

The Mission:

Service Innovation is leading in the design of new digital services for Thermo Fisher Scientific high-tech products. With the growing business prospects and data analytical requirements for these services comes the need to expand the infrastructural foundations. As the scope and operations expand, the services platform needs to scale and connect to other infrastructures, while still being manageable and cost efficient.

The Position:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Product Software Architect to join our team and contribute to the design and development of our innovative digital services within the Apps & Connectivity team. The applications run either in the cloud or on-premises, offering flexibility and scalability to our clients. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, outstanding problem-solving skills, and can communicate concepts and architectural designs to different audiences.

Responsibilities:

You will be a member of the architects board and drive key design decisions related to technologies used in the product design. You will collaborate closely with the various development teams as well as R&D, IT and operations, to ensure integration of designs, infrastructure and aligned roadmaps.

What is the most scalable and cost effective way of realizing our services with the shortest possible time to market while optimising maintainability. What to buy vs. what to build? How to ensure security and performance? These are the kind of challenges you will face! Activities to achieve includes:

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to define and develop the architecture of the technology platform

  • Be a key player in 3rd party component and development technology selection

  • Design scalable, secure and robust software solutions that can run in the cloud or on-premise, and collaborate with the development teams to ensure adherence to architectural principles.

  • Conduct thorough system analysis, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement, and providing recommendations to optimize the product architecture.

  • Communicate sophisticated concepts to non-technical team members, translating them into business value and helping them understand the benefits, trade-offs and outcomes of architectural decisions.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and new technologies and apply this knowledge to drive innovation and continuous improvement within the software architecture.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.

  • Proven experience as a Product Software Architect, preferably in the domain of connectivity and security.

  • Solid understanding of cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and on-premises infrastructure.

  • Deep understanding of C# and .NET programming languages and frameworks and proficiency in designing and architecting secure connectivity solutions, including VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), SSL/TLS, IPSec, SSH, etc.

  • Profound comprehension of network protocols, including TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP(S), gRPC etc.

  • Extensive knowledge of scalable and distributed systems, using microservices architecture and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Excellent understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and DevOps practices.

  • Knowledge of cryptographic principles and protocols, including encryption, hashing, PKI (Public Key Infrastructure), etc.

  • Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills, to identify and address complex architectural challenges.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical contributors.
