Applied Research Associates, Inc. Chemical Hygiene Specialist in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey

ARA’s Engineering Science Division is seeking experienced chemists in our Reactive Materials Group. This is a full-time position on-site with the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL), located at the William J. Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City International Airport, NJ.

As a chemical hygiene specialist you will:

  • Manage the TSL Chemical Hygiene Program, to include support for all testing and operations involving chemicals and the Hazardous materials and Hazardous Waste programs.

  • Manage TSL’s Industrial Hygiene program.

  • Consult with laboratory personnel on chemical use, storage, and disposal.

  • Consult with laboratory personnel on appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) selection.

  • Manage TSL’s spill response program.

Chemical hygiene specialist requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or similar chemistry-related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Substantial knowledge of toxicology and a minimum of 5 years’ specialized experience managing a facility Chemical Hygiene Program, preferably in a laboratory environment.

  • Working knowledge of health and safety regulations (TSL, OSHA, MSHA, etc.).

  • Chemical hygiene officer certification from a professional organization such as the National Registry of Certified Chemists.

  • Ability to perform inspections of a broad range of diverse facilities and operations.

  • Must be a US Citizen.

  • Requires Secret Security Clearance or higher and DHS Suitability, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
