Fairview Health Services Health Unit Coordinator - Emergency Department in Edina, Minnesota

Overview

We at M Health Fairview are looking for a Health Unit Coordinator at Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 48 hours every two weeks on the Day/Evening shift, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend, and is eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, and more. The schedule is not fixed, and a candidate would be expected to work a combination of the following shift times: 7a-330p, 9a-530p, 11a-730p, 3p-11:30p, and 5p-130a.

About this Unit:

Do you have a passion for Emergency Medicine? Then the Southdale Emergency Department might be right for you! Our Emergency Department is a 44 bed, Level 3 Trauma Center that treats over 55,000 patients per year. In addition to being a Trauma Center, the Hospital is a Cardiac Center of Excellence and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Team members include Emergency Physicians, Registered Nurses, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, Mental Health Providers, Pharmacists and Case Managers.

Responsibilities Job Description

Job Expectations:

The Health Unit Coordinator is the primary receptionist and concierge for the unit. This role crafts the “first impression” guests (patients or visitors) experience during their stay from the welcome and greeting, through the check in and checkout process. During the guest’s stay this position interacts closely with patients, families, physicians and the multidisciplinary team in a highly organized and professional manner. The HUC ensures that outstanding patient experience is achieved by displaying effective customer service, decision-making and communication skills in a friendly, thoughtful and empathetic manner. The HUC also performs a range of clerical functions including: handling patient charts, coordination of data flow and sharing of general hospital information/directions.

The HUC's responsibilities include:

  • Ensures outstanding patient & guest experience is achieved

  • Coordinates activities of unit to support patient care staff.

  • Manages medical record and data flow within the unit to support safe patient care processes.

  • Fulfills physician orders.

  • Performs other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 year customer service experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 2+ years customer service experience

  • Previous HUC, administrative or hospitality industry experience
