New York State Job Bank Medical Lab Technologist/Technician in East Syracuse, New York

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician Reports To: Laboratory Manager

Summary: Performs clinical lab testing including but not limited to quality control, calibrations, and patient testing. Promotes quality of laboratory service based on accuracy and prompt reporting of results. Responsible for the effective operation of the lab through coordination of all activities within their scope of responsibilities under the general supervision of the laboratory manager by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Follows established quality control procedures for all tests and is responsible for initiating remedial action when quality control is not within acceptable range.
  2. Follows practice established guidelines for the notification of critical and STAT lab results.
  3. Performs all laboratory information system functions necessary to complete accurate specimen processing and patient testing.
  4. Promotes a productive, professional, and friendly interaction with patients, providers, and members of other departments.
  5. Assists in maintaining reagent and supply inventories.
  6. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  7. Participates in proficiency testing events as assigned by the laboratory manager.
  8. Performs all routine maintenance procedures and calibration of clinical analyzers throughout the laboratory.
  9. Participates in maintaining regulatory compliance with all Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) rules and regulations.
  10. Responsible for complying with all company policies regarding adherence to OSHA, Chemical Hygiene, Infection Control, Blood Borne Pathogens, and HIPAA regulations while performing job-related duties as assigned.
  11. Responsible for occasional evening or weekend work.
  12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical publications and reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and regulatory agencies.

Math Ability: Ability to perform calculations related to the duties of a laboratory scientist.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; or Associates Degree (A.A.S.) from a two-year college. Previous related experience and/or training preferred.

Certificates and Licenses: New York state license as a medical technologist/technician
