Position Summary

MSU's Rehabilitation Counseling programs are partnering with the Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) to create new pathways for individuals with disabilities from marginalized groups---particularly those from underrepresented racial groups---to pursue high-demand careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics or medicine, entitled Project STEMM Up.

We are seeking a Career Pathway Coordinator to join the team and contribute to a U.S. Department of Education funded multi-year, multi-site project, starting January 2023. The project team includes Dr. Connie Sung, principal investigator, Dr. Gloria Lee, co-principal investigator, Drs. Hung Jen Kuo, Emre Umucu, Beatrice Lee, co-investigators, staff researchers, postdoctoral research associates, operational staff, affiliated faculty, and graduate assistants. This position will be renewed annually and can be renewed up to September 2026.

Duties and responsibilities:

Collaborating with MRS to obtain pertinent educational, social, medical, psychological, and vocational data relative to the customer with disabilities;

Assessing customer's needs and conducting intake and screening assessments based on social cognitive career theory (SCCT);

Providing specific recommendations for supplemental SCCT-related services and coordinating with MRS to ensure alignment with customer's individual plan for employment;

Providing counseling and guidance and other SCCT intervention programming pertaining to customer's individual plan for employment;

Collaborating with MRS and assisting with the coordination of SCCT-related and community services to help customers reach the objectives in their individual plan for employment;

Identifying potential internship placement that matches customers' career interests and goals in STEMM occupations;

Collaborating with MRS and assisting with the coordination of job development services for placement-ready customers, including job-seeking skills training and developing job leads;

Recommending specific elements for MRS to consider when identifying post-employment services necessary to maintain suitable employment for customers;

Partnering with Business Network Division consultants to create STEMM-related employment opportunities for customers;

Partnering with Business Network Division consultants to provide training and support to employers in supporting their hiring and retaining individuals with disabilities from racial/ethnic minorities and other marginalized groups;

Collaborating with MRS to update customers' progress and address concerns as they arise;

Recordkeeping that is compliant with established policies and procedures;

Assisting in the development of STEMM-related community resources;

Providing input and feedback throughout the development and implementation of the project;

Collaborating closely with customer's respective rehabilitation counselors;

Collaborating with different groups of individuals, including project directors, investigators, staff researchers, postdoctoral research associates, operational staff, affiliated faculty, graduate assistants, and community stakeholders (rehabilitation counselors, individuals with disabilities and families, and employers);

Attending trainings pertaining to working with individuals with disabilities from racial/ethnic minority and other marginal
